218355. (2022•长安区一中•高一上一月) I like my close friends a lot.And yet,on an almost daily basis, they shock me.I have a friend who thinks voting is a waste of time;I have another friend who never takes any arrangement to meet at a given time and place seriously.
It's generally held that friends are people with whom we choose to develop relationships because we find their personalities agreeable,or similar to our own,and yet experience regularly contradicts this. What is a friend, really? All that one can safely say is that a friend is someone one likes and wishes to see again.
The truth is that we don't know our friends.Numerous studieow that we tend to assume our friends agree with us more than they really do.The striking part is that the problem doesn't appear to lessen as a friendship deepens when the researchers Michael Gill and Bill Swann questioned studentaring rooms, they found that,as time passed, people became even more confident in the accuracy of their judgments about the other, and yet,in reality, the judgments grew no more accurate. Two people might become dear friends, yet remain ignorant about vast areas of each other's inner lives.
This seems strange, until you consider, that many of the benefits that friendship provides don't necessarily depend on perfect familiarity;they come from something closer to reliability.Friendship may be less about being drawn to someone's personality than about finding someone willing to keep you company,or lend an ear.A friend provides the "social-identity support" we desire. You needn't be a close match with someone, nor deeply familiar with their mind. And once a friendship has begun, you want to like it,if only to confirm that you made the right decision. We don't want to know everything about our friends. We don't base friendships on what we learn about people;we decide what to learn about people, and what to ignore, based on having decided to be friends.
Perhaps there's something moving about viewing friendship as an agreement to keep each other company, ignore each other's faults and not probe (刨根问底) too deeply in ways that might weaken the friendship.Perhaps a true friend is someone who doesn't ask many awkward questions.

A.close friends usually know each other in depth

[解析]
(1)写作意图题。根据第二段It's generally held that friends are people with whom we choose to develop relationships because we find their personalities agreeable,or similar to our own,and yet experience regularly contradicts this.
根据第二段friends are people with whom we choose to develop relationships because we find their personalities agreeable,or similar to our own,but experience regularly is opposite to this(朋友是我们选择与之发展关系的人,因为我们觉得他们的性格令人愉快,或与我们自己的性格相似,但经验往往与此相反)可知,朋友之间并非要拥有共同的性格。故选C。
(3)推理判断题。根据最后一段 Perhaps there's something moving about viewing friendship as an agreement to keep each other company, ignore each other's faults and not probe (刨根问底) too deeply in ways that might weaken the friendship.(也许将友谊视为彼此陪伴的协议,忽略对方的缺点,不要过于深入地探究可能会削弱友谊的方式,这一点令人感动。)可知,作者认为朋友之间应该适当保持距离。故选A。

201805. (2024•西安中学•七模)     Meeting people is the first step to make friends. But how do you actually become friends with someone? Here are some useful tips.
1.Make small talk even if you don't feel like it
Small talk can feel false and meaningless. But it does have a purpose.By making small talk, you show that you're friendly and open to communicating. In that way, small talk helps you to make the first connection with potential new friends. If someone doesn't make any small talk,we might assume that they don't want to make friends with us,that they don't like us,or that they're in a bad mood.
2.Figure out what you might have in common
When you talk to someone new and realize that you have things in common, the conversation usually goes from stiff to fun and interesting. Therefore, make it a habit to find out if you have any mutual interests or something in common. You can do this by mentioning things that interest you and seeing how they react.
3.Don't write people off until you know them
Don't judge people too quickly.Try not to assume that they are shallow, boring,or that you have nothing to talk about. If everyone seems uninterested,it might be because you keep getting stuck in small talk.If you only make small talk, everyone soundallow.
4.Make people like being around you
When you try to make people like you,it will become easier for you to make friends. When you make sure that people like being around you, they will like you.If we are with someone with a positive experience,we like that person more.

(1)What is the purpose of small talk?
A.To show that you are in a good mood.
B.To show you have something in common.
C.To show you are friendly and want to talk.
D.To show you are a potential new friend.
(2)According to the passage why do you think people around you are boring?
A.Because you don't have a deep chat with them.
B.Because they have nothing in common with you.
C.Because you don't make a small talk with them.
D.Because you don't like to make friends with them.
(3)What will you do if you want to make it easier to make friends?
A.To avoid being stuck in small talk.
B.To judge people by what they do.
C.To stay with people with a positive experience.
D.To make people willing to stay with you.

204423. (2023•铁一中学•高二上期末)     Making friends is a skill like many other skills. It improves with practice. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be willing to take some measures. You must first go where there are people. You won't make friends staying home alone.Join a club or a group.Talking with those who like the same things as you do is much easier.Or join someone in some activities. Many people are nervous when talking to new people. After all meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it's human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown. Most of our fears about dealing with new people come from doubts about ourselves. We imagine other people are judging us or finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. But don't forget that they must be feeling the same way.Try to accept yourself as you are and try to put the other person at ease. You'll both feel more comfortable.
Try to act self-confidently even if you don't feel that way. When you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom, walk tall and straight, look directly at other people and smile.
If you see someone you'd like to speak to,say something.Don't wait for the other person to start a conversation.
Just meeting someone new does not mean that you will make friends with that person-friendship is based on the mutual liking and" give and take".It takes time and effort to develop.

203408. (2016•西工大附中•七模) The baby monkey is much more developed at birth than the human baby.Almost from the moment it is born, the baby monkey can move around and hold tightly to its mother.During the first few days of its life the baby will approach and hold onto almost any large, warm, and soft object in its environment, particularly if that object also gives it milk. After a week or so,however, the baby monkey begins to avoid newcomers and focuses its attentions on "mother"- the real mother or the mother-substitute.
During the first two weeks of its life warmth is perhaps the most important psychological thing that a monkey mother has to give to its baby. The Harlows,a couple who are both psychologists, discovered this fact by offering baby monkeys a choice of two types of mother-substitutes - one covered with cloth and one made of bare wire.If the two artificial mothers were both the same temperature, the little monkeys always preferred the cloth mother. However,if the wire model was heated, while the cloth model was cool, for the first two weeks after birth the baby monkeys picked the warm wire mother-substitutes as their favorites.Thereafter they switched and spent most of their time on the more comfortable cloth mother.
Why is cloth preferable to bare wire?Something that the Harlows called contact comfort seems to be the answer, and a most powerful influence it is.Baby monkeys spend much of their time rubbing against their mothers' skins, putting themselves in as close contact with the parent as they can.Whenever the young animal is frightened, disturbed,or annoyed,it typically rushes to its mother and rubs itself against her body.Wire doesn't "rub" as well as does soft cloth.Prolonged (长时间的) "contact comfort" with a cloth mother appears to give the babies confidence and is much more rewarding to them than is either warmth or milk.
According to the Harlows, the basic quality of a baby's love for its mother is trust. If the baby is put into an unfamiliar playroom without its mother, the baby ignores the toys no matter how interesting they might be.It screams in terror and curls up into a furry little ball.If its cloth mother is now introduced into the playroom, the baby rushes to it and holds onto it for dear life. After a few minutes of contact comfort,it obviously begins to feel more secure. It then climbs down from the mother-substitute and begins to explore the toys, but often rushes back for a deep embrace as if to make sure that its mother is still there and that all is well.Bit by bit its fears of the new environment are gone and it spends more and more time playing with the toys and less and less time holding onto its "mother."

203439. (2015•师大附中•一模) Our body clock,or natural body rhythm, influences our energy and alertness(警觉).paying attention to it can help us choose the suitable time of day when we best perform specific tasks.
The reality, however,is that most of us organize their time around work demands, school deadlines, commuting or social events.Doing whatever your body feels like doing is a luxury in today's fast-paced modern society.
But that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying.Obeying our body clock has significant health benefits.Disrupting our natural body rhythm,on the other hand, has been linked to problems such as depression, obesity,or headache, says Steve Key,a biology professor.
When the body clock can synchronize(使……同步)the rhythms of its natural processes,it "gives us an advantage in daily life",says Key.
According to him, when it comes to cognitive (认知的) work, most adults perform best in the late morning. As our body temperature starts to rise just before awakening in the morning and continues to increase until midday, our memory, alertness and concentration gradually improve.
However,he adds, our ability to concentrate typically starts to decrease soon thereafter. Most of us are more easily distracted (分心) between noon and 4pm.
Alertness also tends to fall after eating a meal and sleepiness tends to peak around 2pm,making that a good time for a nap.
Surprisingly, tiredness may increase our creative powers. For most adults, problems that require open ended thinking are often best dealt with in the evening when they are tired, according to a study in the journal Thinking & Reasoning.
When choosing a time of day to exercise, paying attention to your body clock can improve results.Physical performance is usually best from about 3 to 6 pm,says Michael Smolensky,a professor of biomedical engineering.
Of course, not everyone's body clock is the same, making it even harder to synchronize natural rhythms with daily plans.

(1)If we know our natural body rhythm well,we can.
A.organize our time around work demands
B.find out the suitable time to do specific tasks
C.do whatever our body feels like doing
D.be sure to be healthy
(2)Inspiration to solve a difficult problem will most probably come to us
A.when we get up in the morning
B.when we are full of energy in the late morning
C.when we are tired in the evening
D.when we are asleep at night

203477. (2015•师大附中•四模) Scientists recently discovered that pictures on cave walls at Creswell Crags are the oldest known in Great Britain. But they didn't find out in the usual way.
Archaeologists often date cave art with a process called radiocarbon dating. The technique can measure the age of carbon found in charcoal(木炭)drawings or painted pictures.Carbon is an element found in many things, including charcoal and even people. But in this case, there was no paint or charcoal to test.People carved the pictures of animals and figures into the rock using stone tools. The scientists had an "aha!" moment when they noticed small rocks stuck to the top of the drawings. The small rocks must have formed after the drawings were made.
"It is rare to be able to scientifically date rock art," said Alistair Pike,an archaeological scientist at Britain's University of Bristol. "We were very fortunate that some of the engravings were covered by stalagmites(石笋).
When a test proved that the stalagmites formed 12,800 years ago,the scientists knew the art underneath them had to be at least that old.And some of the animalown, like the European bison, are now extinct--another tip-off that the art is quite old.
The artists came to Creswell Crags,This place is one of the farthest points north reached by our ancient ancestors during the Ice Age.At that time, much of the North Sea was dry,so people could move about more easily.
Some tools and bones found there are 13,000 to 15,000 years old. They show that the travelers hunted horses, reindeer, and arctic hare.Their artwork is similar to art in France and Germany. It tells scientists that the Creswell Crags artists must have had a close connection to peoples several thousand kilometers away-another important clue to understanding how humans spread out across the world.

B.The animals carved in the stone are beautiful.
C.The cave is one of the farthest points in the world.

203478. (2015•师大附中•四模) In modern society there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some value it highly, believing that it is responsible for social progress and prosperity, others say that competition is bad;that it sets one person against another;that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who held the belief that their self - worth relied (依赖) on how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life - and - death affairs. In their single - minded pursuit (追求) of success, the development of many other human qualities is sadly forgotten.
However, while some seem to be lost in the desire to succeed, others take an opposite attitude. In a culture which values only the winner and pays no attention to the ordinary players, they strongly blame competition.Among the most vocal are youngsters who have suffered under competitive pressures from their parents or society.Teaching these young people,I often observe in them a desire to fail. They seem to seek failure by not trying to win or achieve success.By not trying, they always have an excuse: "I may have lost, but it doesn't matter because I really didn't try." What is not usually admitted by themselves is the belief that if they had really tried and lost, that would mean a lot.Such a loss would be a measure of their worth.Clearly, this belief is the same as that of the true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one's self - respect relies on how well one performs in comparison with others. Both are afraid of not being valued.Only as this basic and often troublesome fear begins to dissolve (缓解) can we discover a new meaning in competition.

(1)What does this passage mainly talk about?
A.Competition helps to set up self - respect.
B.Opinions about competition are different among people.
C.Competition is harmful to personal quality development.
D.Failures are necessary experiences in competition.
(2)Why do some people favor competition according to the passage?
A.It pushes society forward.
B.It builds up a sense of duty.
C.It improves personal abilities.
D.It encourages individual efforts.
(3)The underlined phrase "the most vocal" in Paragraph 3 means
A.those who try their best to win
B.those who value competition most highly
C.those who are against competition most strongly
D.those who rely on others most for success
(4)Which point of view may the author agree to
A.Every effort should be paid back.
B.Competition should be encouraged.
C.Winning should be a life - and - death matter.
D.Fear of failure should be removed in competition.

203516. (2015•西工大附中•八模) Do you find getting up in the morning so difficult that it's painful? This might be called laziness, but Dr.Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you labour through your work, you may say that you're"hot".That's true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak. For some people that peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so,but it leads to such familiar monologues(自言自语)as"Get up,John! You'll be late for work again!"The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening.Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.
You can't change your energy cycle, but you can make your life fit it better.Habit can help.Dr.Kleitman believes.Maybe you're sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway.Counteract your cycle to some extent by habitually staying up later than you want to.If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won't change your cycle, but you'll get up energy and work better at your low point.
Get off to a slow start which saves your energy.Get up with a yawn and stretch.Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before putting your feet on the floor.Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before.Whenever possible,do routine work in the afternoon and save tasks requiring more energy for your sharper hours.

205622. (2019•蓝田县•高二下期末) Dolphins are not fish, but warm-blooded animals. They live in groups, and speak to each other in their own language. In this, they are like other animals, such as bees and birds. But dolphins are very different from almost all land animals.Their brain is nearly the same size as our own,and they live a long time-at least twenty or thirty years.Like some animals, dolphins use sound to help them find their way around. They also make these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food.We now know they do not use their ears to receive these sounds, but the lower part of the mouth, called the jaw.
Strangely, dolphins seem to like man,and for thousands of years there have been stories about the dolphin and its friendship with people.
There is a story about sailors in the 19th century. In a dangerous part of the sea off the coast of New Zealand, they learnt to look for a dolphin called Jack. From 1871 to 1903,Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. Then in 1903 a passenger on a boat called The Penguin shot and wounded Jack.He recovered and for nine years more continued to guide all ships through the area--except for The Penguin.

213906. (2022•西安中学•高二下期中) The rapid growth in skyscrapers worldwide, most of which have large windows, has led to a high demand for window washers.Though the job is well-paid,it is dangerous and accidents are not uncommon. However,if Israel-based start-up Skyline Technologies has its way,the dangerous job may soon be done by Ozmo,an intelligent window cleaning robot, with humans supervising from the safety of the ground.
Much like humans,Ozmo, sitting on platforms hanging from the buildings, uses its arms and brushes to clean the dirt on the glass.A 3 D map of the building's surface programmed into its system allows the robot to skillfully deal with any obstacle it is likely to meet,as it moves up and down the buildings. The robot will self-correct and move around every obstacle that it might have met so as not to break a window.
Unlike present window washers, the robot cleaner does not require soap to clean the glass.Instead,it uses distilled(蒸馏的) water to do the job.Yaron Schwarcz,CEO of Skyline Robotics explains, "We are environmentally friendly."
Ozmo is also expected to be much more efficient than its human counterparts. While it presently takes three cleaners 480 hours each to clean windows of a 40-storey glass building, the robot will be able to do it in 80 hours. However, unlike other robots,Ozmo will not replace human workers, and only make their jobs safer by making them supervisors, who will be controlling the operation from the safety of the ground.
Whether Ozmo, which is still being tested, does as good a job as humans is not clear. If things go well, its creators have much bigger ambitions for Ozmo.Schwarcz told Forbes Magazine, "Window cleaning is just the tip of the iceberg. We plan to replace all tasks that are dangerous and dirty."

(1)Why is Ozmo friendly to our environment?
A.It depends on solar energy.
B.It uses less soap than other robots.
C.It makes our ecosystem more balanced.
D.It consumes nothing made from chemicals.
(2)What does the underlined part "the tip of the iceberg" mean?
A.As cool as the iceberg.
B.A small part of a big plan.
C.The most advanced technology.
D.The leading role in the modern world.
(3)What is the best title for the text?
A.Robots make a difference.

205640. (2018•西安中学•高一下期末) Imagine, one day, getting out of bed in Beijing and being at your office in Shanghai in only a couple of hours, and then, after a full day of work, going back home to Beijing and having dinner there.
Sounds unusual, doesn't it?But it's not that unrealistic, with the development of China's high-speed railway system. And that's not all.China has an even greater high-speed railway plan to connect the country with Southeast Asia, and eventually Eastern Europe.China is negotiating to extend its own high-speed railway network to up to 17 countries in 10 to 15 years, eventually reaching London and Singapore.
China has proposed three such projects. The first would possibly connect Kunming with Singapore via Vietnam and Malaysia.Another could start in Urumqi and go through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and possibly to Germany. The third would start in the northeast and go north through Russia and then into Western Europe. The new system would still follow China's high-speed railway standard. And the trains would be able to go 346 kilometers an hour, almost as fast as some airplanes.Of course, there are some technical challenges to overcome. There are so many issues that need to be settled, such as safety, rail gauge(轨距),maintenance of railway tracks. But the key issue is really money.China is already spending hundreds of billions of yuan on domestic railway expansion.
China prefers that the other countries pay in natural resources rather than with capital investment.Resources from those countries could stream into China to sustain development. It'll be a win-win project. For other countries, the railway network will definitely create more opportunities for business, tourism and so on,not to mention the better communication among those countries.
For China, such a project would not only connect it with the rest of Asia and bring some much-needed resources, but would also help develop China's far west.We foresee that in the coming decades, millions of people will migrate to the western regions, where the land is empty and resources unused. With high-speed trains, people will set up factories and business centers in the west once and for all.And they'll trade with Central Asian and Eastern European countries.

(1)According to the passage, the greatest challenge to the new high-speed railway plan is
A.technical issues
B.safety of the system

B.China and the countries involved will benefit from the project in various ways.
C.China will develop its railway system and communication with other countries.
D.The foreign countries involved will develop their railway transportation, business and tourism.
(3)Which of the following words best describes the author's attitude towards China's high-speed railway plan?
A.Critical.
B.Reserved.
C.Doubtful.
D.Positive.
(4)Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

213907. (2022•西安中学•高二下期中) Great whites and whale sharks are among the species at risk of extinction over the next century,a new study has found.
Pimiento is the lead author of a study published in Science Advances that looks at how the extinction of large marine species would impact the ecological roles of ocean ecosystems. "The extinction crisis challenges scientists to better measure biodiversity:how will the total variety of life on Earth be affected as human activities lead to the losses of more and more species?" they said.In the oceans, the biggest animals are thought to play crucial ecological roles, and are also facing high levels of threat from human activities such as fisheries and climate change.
The team was looking to move beyond traditional species extinctions,to find out more about the functional diversity, the range of roles that these species perform, and how biodiversity might respond under different extinction scenarios(预测).They ran two different extinction scenarios. In one, researchers looked at extinction probability based on their current IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature)status. In the second, they assumed all species listed as threatened, around 40 percent, had gone extinct.
Sharks were found to be one of the worst affected groups. "We already knew that sharks are one of the most threatened groups in the ocean," they said. "They are also very vulnerable due to their large size and low reproductive rate. Our resultow that future extinctions would be selective against the most functionally unique and specialized shark species, resulting in greater projected losses." They also said the biggest threats to marine megafauna(大型哺乳动物群)are fishing, either through accidentally getting caught up or directly targeted, and climate change.Mitigating these threats could be the best way to protect these species.
The good news is that the study identifies key species that can be targeted and protected.Sometimes ocean conservation can be a triage game. The science helps us know which species really need our help and which species we really cannot afford to lose.

(1)What is Pimiento's study about?
A.The possible threats of large marine animals.
B.The main cause of the extinction crisis in the sea.
C.The ecological role of large animals in the ocean.
D.The best way of balancing biodiversity with human acts.
(2)How did the team conduct its research?
A.By checking current data.
B.By predicting extinction rates.
C.By measuring marine biodiversity.
D.By analyzing traditional experiments.
(3)What does the study's result show?
A.The risk of sharks reproducing in the ocean.
B.The solution to animals' protection in the sea.
C.The influence of sharks' extinction on the ocean.
D.The reason for sharks being hit hardest in the sea.
(4)What is the author's attitude towards the study?
A.Indifferent.
B.Positive.
C.Skeptical.
D.Negative.
