二、阅读理解(4小题共30分)
11. (本题6分) Best Science Fiction The Sprawl Trilogy by William Gibson
This classic trilogy from William Gibson consists of Neuromancer,Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. The Hugo Award-,Nebula Award- and Philip K.Dick Award-winning Neuromancer remains one of the best sci-fi books ever written and the entire trilogy is worth a read, even if it's the original that gets all the praise.
   Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons
This series by Dan Simmons consists of Hyperion,The Fall of Hyperion,Endymion and The Rise of Endymion.Truly one of the great works in science fiction history, the Hugo Award-winning Hyperion Cantos is an absolutely excellent story of extreme terror,character-building and wild-world-building that is almost without equal in the type. How we haven't gotten a proper onscreen adaptation of this series yet,I have no idea, but perhaps it's best left in its original, amazing book form.
Ender's Game Quartet by Orson Scott Card
Ender's Game is often read in schools, but it has incredibly mature themes like isolation, loneliness, competition and fear, many of which are more relevant now than when Orson Scott Card first began the series in 1985.If you love Ender's Game,it's worth reading the whole series to follow the sci-fi adventures of Andrew "Ender" Wiggin:Ender's Game,Ender in Exile,Xenocide and Children of the Mind.
   Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
This is the only stand-alone book on this list,as the rest are all in a series,so if you don't feel like investing in 300,000 pages of content,Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash is for you. This book is the heir (继承人)to Neuromancer's throne and an absolutely excellent read from Stephenson. The author uses virtual reality as his setting, and the main character is a pizza deliveryman in one world and a warrior prince in another.

(1)Which book won the most awards according to the text?
A.Neuromancer.
B.Hyperion.
C.Ender's Game.
D.Snow Crash.
(2)What do we know about Ender's Game Quartet?
A.It consists of three books.
B.It is popular among students.
C.It has been adapted into a film.
D.It focuses on children's problems.
(3)What is special about Snow Crash?
A.It's the longest story.
B.It's about the solar system.
C.It's not a series.
D.It's not a real story.
12. (本题8分) I was sitting at my kitchen table the other day with a pen, notebook, calculator and a pile of bills.I was doing my monthly budget. There were bills for electric water, rent, insurance, the car payment, the phone bill, and the cable bill.Plus money needed to be set aside for food, gas, clothes and hopefully a little left over to save for those unexpected bills that always seemed to show up.When I was done,I shook my head, closed my eyes and thought of a time long ago when I would regularly get treasures.
When I was a boy,we lived across the road from Camp Caesar. It held week long camps all through the summer and my grandma who I lovingly called "Nanny" worked in her big kitchen.I remember slipping there getting a smile,a hug,a kiss and a hot roll from Nanny. Then she would always take deep in her pockets and pull out a treasure,a shiny quarter. She would give it to me and I would run down the hill to either get an ice cold can of coke from the pop machine or I would head to the camp's swimming pool where I could buy a warm cup of cherry coke for 15 cents and a tiny 10 cent bag of chips from a stand.I took my time because it was always a big decision. It was nice too feeling so rich for a few minutes.
Looking back now I can see that the real treasure was not the quarter at all.It was the love with which Nanny gave it to me.I would have still visited her at work every day if I had never gotten a single quarter. It was her smile, hugs, and kisses that were priceless in my heart then and now.
The old saying is true, "With your work you can make a living, but it is with your love that you make a life." You can always welcome love into your heart, soul and mind. And you can alwayare your love with others. It is that one treasure that lasts forever.

(1)According to Paragraph 1,what was the author trying to figure out?
A.Where to get treasures.
B.What food and supplies to buy.
C.How to sort out these bills at hand.
D.How to balance the money available.
(2)What does the underlined word "roll" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.A kind of bread
B.A kind of act.
C.A sound.
D.A greeting.
(3)Which of the following best describes Nanny?
A.Considerate.
B.Generous.
C.Affectionate.
D.Enthusiastic.
(4)Why does the author mention the old saying in the last paragraph?
A.To change people's heart and soul.
B.To show what we should value in life.
C.To explain work and love can make a life.
D.To advise more love and sharing in childhood.
13. (本题8分) There is something to be said for being a generalist, even if you are a specialist.Knowing a little about a lot of things that interest you can add to the richness of a whole,well-lived life.Nowadays society pushes us to specialize,to become experts. This requires commitment to a particular occupation, branch of study or research. There is a great deal of pressure to master one's field. You may pursue training, degrees,or increasing levels of responsibility at work. Then you discover the pressure of having to keep up.
Some people seem willing to work around the clock in their narrow specialty. But such commitment can also weaken a sense of freedom. These specialists could work at the office until ten each night, then look back and realize they would have loved to have gone home and enjoyed the sweetness of their family and friends,or traveled to exciting places, meeting interesting people.Mastering one thing to the exclusion(排除)of others can hold back your true spirit.
Generalists,on the other hand, know a lot about a wide range of subjects and view the whole with all its connections. They are people of ability, talent, and enthusiasm who can bring their broad perspective into specific fields of expertise. The doctor who is also a poet and philosopher is a superior doctor, one who can give so much more to his patients than just good medical skills.
Things are connected.Let your expertise in one field fuel your passions in all related areas. Some of your interests may not appear to be connected but, once you explore their depths, you discover that they are.My editor Toni, who is also a writer, has edited several history books. She has decided to study Chinese history.Fascinated by the structural beauty of the Forbidden City as a painter, she is equally interested to learn more Chinese philosophy. "I do not know where it will lead, but I am excited I am on this pursuit."
These expansions into new worlds help us by giving us new perspectives. We begin to see the interconnectedness of one thing to another in all aspects of our life,of ourselves and the universe.Develop broad, general knowledge and experience. The universe is all yours to explore and enjoy.

(1)The specialists mentioned in Paragraph 2 tend to        .
A.treasure their freedom
B.travel around the world
C.spend most time working
D.enjoy meeting funny people
(2)According to the author,a superior doctor is one who        .
A.is a pure specialist in medicine
B.should love poetry and philosophy
C.is fully aware of his talent and ability
D.brings knowledge of other fields to work
(3)What can we learn from the example of Toni?
A.In-depth exploration makes discoveries possible.
B.Passion alone does not ensure a person's success.
C.Everyone has a chance to succeed in their pursuit.
D.Seemingly unrelated interests are in a way connected.
(4)What could be the best title for the passage?
A.Ways to Become a Generalist
B.Turn a Generalist into a Specialist
C.Be More a Generalist Than a Specialist
D.Specialist or Generalist:Hard to Decide
14. (本题8分) Stonehenge(巨石阵)may have been a prehistoric health center rather than a site for observing stars or a temple in honor of the dead, scientists said yesterday.New evidence unearthed at the World Heritage Site in more than 40 years suggests that the monument was a place where the diseased and injured went in groups, seeking cures.
After a two-week dig, scientists have concluded that Stonehenge was "the ancient healthcare centre of southern England" because of the existence of "bluestones" —the smaller columns of dolerite(辉绿岩)that formed an earlier stone structure.
By dating pieces of remains to around 7330 BC,Tim Darvill,of Bournemouth University, and Goff Wainwright,of the Society of Amtiquaries have found that hunter-gatherers were at the site on Salisbury Plain 4,000 years earlier than thought. The first stage of Stonehenge,a round earthwork structure, was built around 3000 BC.Professor Wainwright added:"I did not expect the degree of complexity we discovered. We're able to say so much more about when Stonehenge was built and why —all of which changes our previous understanding of the monument."
The research reveals the importance of the henge's famous bluestones.Hundreds of bluestone chips gathered at the site have led the team to conclude that the bluestones were valued for their curing effects— the key reason why about 80 of them, each weighing up to 4 tons and a half, were dragged more than 150 miles from the Preseli Hills to Wiltshire. After years of research,Professors Darvill and Wainwright have concluded that, for thousands of years the Preseli mountain range was home to magical health centers and holy wells.
Even today there are those who believe in the curing powers of the springs for coughs and heart disease, and people who use crystals and bluestones for self-curing.Radiocarbon tests have also revealed that the construction of the original bluestone circle took place around 2300 BC,three centuries later than originally thought.Interestingly,on the same day died the "Amesbury Archer" — a sick traveler from the Swiss or German Alps who had an infected knee — whose remains were discovered about five miles from Stonehenge. The professors believe that he was a devoted religious person who was hoping to benefit from the curing powers of the monument.

(1)Stonehenge is recently believed to be a place for people        .

D.The original bluestone circle was thought to be constructed around 2000 BC.

Competition between parents over children's education may start from the kind of animated series children watch. For some parents, watching foreign animated shows is better than watching domestic ones.    (4)       For example, children should be encouraged to read both folk tales from China and foreign countries. However, once parents hold views of superiority, the views can more or less leave an influence on their children.Innocent children, influenced by their parents, slowly hold the views that watching foreign shows is superior to watching domestic shows.(5)        Once it is formed in children's minds, parents' education can't be regarded as successful.

Several exhibitions were arranged. All of us were interested in sculptures so we go to see the Stone Sculpture Art of the Song Dynasty. The figures looked vivid. That impressed us most was the staff: some were cleaning, some dressing in traditional costumes entertaining visitors, or dancing.
