12. (本题8分) Aron Ralston was a pretty normal guy,but he always had an extremely adventurous desire to travel and see the world.During his childhood, his family moved to Denver,Colorado,a place offering many opportunities to climb mountains, explore, and eventually become the adventurer he'd always wanted to be.Back in 2003,Ralston was climbing in the remote, mountainous area of Southwestern Utah, when the unthinkable happened:Aron got stuck in a crevice (裂缝) in the rocks and pinned by a big stone that weighed over 360 kilograms. The weight of the rock crushed his arm,and he was pinned by it.Aron took photos of his bad situation (which was going to get a lot worse) as he waited for rescue teams (救援队) to come to remove the rock so that he could get out and home safe.
But rescuers never came.Aron waited for them for days till he lost his hope.He knew he had to do something. He was 18 meters above the floor of the valley where he was pinned in,and he had a pocketknife. He made what must have been one of the most difficult decisions of his life:to cut his own arm in order to survive.Aron cut the lower part of his arm off, having to wrench (扭动) his forearm against the big stone to break the bones, and then got himself down to the bottom of the valley, where he would begin to walk and search for help.Luckily, help arrived in the form of a helicopter (直升机) that spotted him, covered in blood.Aron had tied off the wound to keep himself from bleeding to death pretty successfully and would eventually make it out alive.

13. (本题8分) There is more of a connection between food and culture than you may think. On an individual level,we grow up eating the food of our culture. It becomes a part of who we are. Many associate food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it ties us to our families, holding a special and personal value for us.Food from our family often becomes the comfort food we seek as adults in times of frustration and stress.
On a large scale, traditional food is an important part of culture. It also operates as an expression of culture identity.Immigrants(移民)bring it wherever they go,and it is a symbol of pride in their culture and means of coping with homesickness.
Many immigrants open their own restaurants and serve traditional cuisine. However, the food does not remain exactly the same. Some ingredients needed to make traditional cuisine may not be readily available,so the taste and flavor can be different from what they would prepare in their home countries.Additionally, immigrants do not only sell cuisine to people from the same countries as them, but to people from different countries. Therefore, they have to make small changes to the original cuisine to cater to a wider range of customers. Those changes can create new flavors that still keep the cultural significance of the cuisine.
We should not only embrace our heritage through our culture's food but also become more informed about other cultures by trying their food.It is important to remember that each dish has a special place in the culture to which it belongs, and is special to those who prepare it.Food is a window into culture, and it should be treated as such.

A.It helps motivate homesickness.
B.It shows culture identity.
C.It reflects a country's history.
D.It shows a community's superiority.

A.To attach cultural importance to their dishes.
B.To announce the beginning of their life on foreign soil.
C.To make the dishes popular among customers.
D.To present their own food culture in a new way.
(3)What's the author's attitude towards different food cultures?
A.Negative.
B.Balanced.
C.Unfair.
D.Unchangeable.
(4)Which column does the passage come from?
A.Space
B.Science
C.Food
D.Entertainment
14. (本题8分) It's easy for consumers to buy food and drinks like a bowl of hot rice and coke online or from neighbourhood shops, but for astronauts such things were impossible in the past.
Members of China's Shenzhou manned space flight last year, however, were able to enjoy such food, thanks to Joyoung,a Chinese firm.Joyoung created a mobile space kitchen for the astronauts.A drinking water machine,an air heater and a soybean milk maker were all accessible in the kitchen through a smart app.Tang Hongbo, who was a member of the Shenzhou manned spacecraft, said in the news that during his three month trip,he could eat hot food with just half-hour efforts,a contrast to the past when similar attempts required several hours. If we had time,we would also use equipment to eat homemade yogurt. We could also control the equipment in the space kitchen through mobile phone apps," he said.
In the past, most foods couldn't be directly heated in a microwave oven in the space.Conduction equipment often caused uneven (不均匀的) heating. An astronaut had to spend as long as four hours to heat some vegetables in the space kitchen. To solve the problem,Joyoung has developed equipment that gives out hot air to heat vegetables in a 360-degree way. That enables astronauts to eat steaming-hot fish-flavoured pork and Gongbao chicken,a spicy,stir-fried Chinese dish.
Besides Joyoung,a group of companies, including Xiaomi Corp and Huawei Technologies, have contributed their technologies to the development of the space station.A vacuum (真空) cleaner enabled haircuts on the spacecraft possible.NOLO VR,a Chinese virtual reality manufacturer, has helped astronauts develop an experimental equipment through which laboratory technicians on the ground can see and experience what astronauts are doing in the space.

A.There is more tech for the spacecraft.
B.Joyoung needs to further its technology.
