218694. (2022•铁路中学•高二上二月) When something goes wrong,it can be very satisfying to say,"Well,it's so-and-so's fault."or"I know I'm late, but it's not my fault;the car broke down."It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to deal with the situation. This is the winner's key to success.
Winners are good at overcoming problems. For example,if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly.Or,you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers,so you could call for help when in need. For another example,if your colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person.Ask to work with a different person,or don't rely on the person. You should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well.
This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens.Winners don't have fewer problems in their lives;they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents.
So,stop focusing on"whose fault it is."Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stop on for success.
(1)According to the passage,winners        .
A.have responsible and able colleagues

A.Blame him for his lack of responsibility.
B.Find a better way to handle the problem.
C.Tell him to find the cause of the problem.
D.Ask a more able colleague for help.
(3)When problems occur, what winners take them as
A.chances for self-development.
B.barriers to greater power.
C.challenges to their colleagues.
D.excuses for their failures.
(4)Which of the following is the best title for the passage

(1)细节理解题。根据第二段的However,you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to improve the situation. This is the winner's key to success.(然而,如果你不再纠结于该责备谁,而是开始关注如何改善现状,那么你对发生在你身上的事情就有很大的控制权。这是成功者成功的钥匙。)可知,成功的人士在面对问题会去解决问题,而不是责备他人,故选C。
(2)细节理解题。根据第三段的For another example,if your colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person.(再比如,如果你的同事因为缺乏责任感或能力而在工作上给你带来麻烦,你要想办法解决他的不负责任或无能,而不是简单地责怪这个人。)可知,当你的同事给你带来问题时,你应该想出更好的办法来克服这个问题。故选B。
(3)细节理解题。根据最后一段They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents.(他们只是更善于把这些问题视为发展自己才能的挑战和机会。)可知,那些成功的人会把生活中的困难当做是自我发展的机会。故选A。
(4)标题归纳题。通读全文可知本文主要讲述了一些成功人士的行事特征,告诉我们如何做一个成功的人。因此,B项A Winner's Secret."成功者的秘诀"最合文意,适合作为本文标题,故选D。

212637. (2025•铁一中学•高二下期中)     What if everything happens for a reason?Burnt toast theory,a modern view on this classic idea, suggests that every little inconvenience we experience in our day-to-day lives happens for a bigger reason.
Imagine you accidentally burn your toast before leaving for work.According to burnt toast theory, this tiny inconvenience can cause a domino effect(多米诺效应).Your morning gets delayed by three to five minutes-just enough time to leave the house later than usual and avoid a potential car accident.Or perhaps you catch a later train, missing an awkward encounter with someone you don't intend to see.You might even meet someone new whom you wouldn't have otherwise met, leading to a friendship or romantic connection.
When we feel like things are outside our control, that can be scary. The burnt toast theory can help some people let go of their need for control and take negative situations more positively.
However, while maintaining a positive mindset can be beneficial,over-optimism can lead to"poisonous positivity".When we only allow ourselves to focus on positive thoughts,we are denying ourselves the chance to properly deal with challenges and difficult situations to better ourselves, focusing on creating a false positive facade(假象) instead.By constantly avoiding negative experiences,we might ignore their real impact on us and fail to acknowledge when we're struggling. It can make us feel worse about ourselves, and may lead to pushing down negative feelings or experiences, and refusing to acknowledge or deal with them fully.
Instead of focusing purely on positive thinking, working towards developing a growth mindset may be more helpful. You don't always have to look for life's silver linings,or even the meaning behind a little burnt toast.Sometimes things happen, and they suck. But as long as we take time to acknowledge how these things make us feel, and recognize that we can't always control everything around us,we can still work towards improving ourselves, and how we handle life's unexpected challenges-and that's what really matters.

(1)What can be inferred from the burnt toast theory?
A.Life is a process,not destination.
B.Lost in the east, gained in the west.
C.Life is full of endless challenges.
D.Lost time will never be found again.

A.Loss of chances to grow.
B.Failure to acknowledge others.
C.Inability to control emotions.
D.Decline in physical health.
(3)Which can be seen as a growth mindset mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.Finding reasons for failure.
B.Avoiding pushing others too hard.
C.Accepting life and making it better.
D.Keeping a positive mindset and working hard.
(4)Which is the best possible title for the text?
A.Burn Toast Theory:Find a True Self
B.Burn Toast Theory:Lead a Positive Life
C.Burn Toast Theory:More than Positivity
D.Burn Toast Theory:How to Live Actively

213783. (2022•西安三中•高二上期中) Everyone knows how to fake a smile. We learn when to show and hide our genuine emotions from early face-to-face exchanges. As we grow,we have been developing a social smile to hide unacceptable emotions.
The social smile is often activated automatically. We may not be fully aware of it.We might smile to put the brakes on showing too much negative emotion in public. We may maintain a calm, relaxed smile to prevent fear from upwelling and getting the best of us.We can also intentionally use the social smile to pepper our communication.
Now that many of us are wearing face masks in public, how does it influence our communication of emotion?
Some people are finding it a relief. Those suffering from social anxiety may welcome wearing face masks precisely because they prefer to veil their emotional state from the outside world as much as possible.Others appreciate the freedom from the obligation to put others at ease with a warm ,friendly smile.By wearing a face mask ,you don't have to smile if you don't feel like it.
However, without the social smile,it may be more challenging to manage others' reactions to us.How do we react to seeing someone wearing a mask ?Research finds that observers rely mostly on the eye and mouth regions to recognize emotions successfully.Different emotions are most easily detected in different areas of the face. When the whole face is visible,we focus on the eyes to spot sadness and fear, whereas disgust and happiness are more reliably detected by concentrating on the mouth area. These two parts of the face can work in isolation or complex coordination.
The face mask only hides the fake smiles ,not the real ones.Consider that by only seeing the eyes,it may be easier to get an accurate read of people's genuine emotions.

A.To be socially acceptable.
B.To show one's kindness.
C.To prevent hurting others.

A.It relieves some people of social obligation.
B.It puts one at ease with a decent manner.
C.It may bring some trouble in communication.

(3)What idea does the author try to present in the last two paragraphs?
A.Mouth area reflects positive emotions while eyes negative.
B.True feelings can't be recognized without observing the eyes.
C.Eyes and mouth regions work separately to express one's emotions.
D.Eyes are the window to the soul and reveal one's true emotional state.
(4)Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A.What is Social Smile?
B.Smile:Real or Fake?

203439. (2015•师大附中•一模) Our body clock,or natural body rhythm, influences our energy and alertness(警觉).paying attention to it can help us choose the suitable time of day when we best perform specific tasks.
The reality, however,is that most of us organize their time around work demands, school deadlines, commuting or social events.Doing whatever your body feels like doing is a luxury in today's fast-paced modern society.
But that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying.Obeying our body clock has significant health benefits.Disrupting our natural body rhythm,on the other hand, has been linked to problems such as depression, obesity,or headache, says Steve Key,a biology professor.
When the body clock can synchronize(使……同步)the rhythms of its natural processes,it "gives us an advantage in daily life",says Key.
According to him, when it comes to cognitive (认知的) work, most adults perform best in the late morning. As our body temperature starts to rise just before awakening in the morning and continues to increase until midday, our memory, alertness and concentration gradually improve.
However,he adds, our ability to concentrate typically starts to decrease soon thereafter. Most of us are more easily distracted (分心) between noon and 4pm.
Alertness also tends to fall after eating a meal and sleepiness tends to peak around 2pm,making that a good time for a nap.
Surprisingly, tiredness may increase our creative powers. For most adults, problems that require open ended thinking are often best dealt with in the evening when they are tired, according to a study in the journal Thinking & Reasoning.
When choosing a time of day to exercise, paying attention to your body clock can improve results.Physical performance is usually best from about 3 to 6 pm,says Michael Smolensky,a professor of biomedical engineering.
Of course, not everyone's body clock is the same, making it even harder to synchronize natural rhythms with daily plans.

(1)If we know our natural body rhythm well,we can.
A.organize our time around work demands
B.find out the suitable time to do specific tasks
C.do whatever our body feels like doing
D.be sure to be healthy

B.when we are full of energy in the late morning
C.when we are tired in the evening
D.when we are asleep at night

203477. (2015•师大附中•四模) Scientists recently discovered that pictures on cave walls at Creswell Crags are the oldest known in Great Britain. But they didn't find out in the usual way.
Archaeologists often date cave art with a process called radiocarbon dating. The technique can measure the age of carbon found in charcoal(木炭)drawings or painted pictures.Carbon is an element found in many things, including charcoal and even people. But in this case, there was no paint or charcoal to test.People carved the pictures of animals and figures into the rock using stone tools. The scientists had an "aha!" moment when they noticed small rocks stuck to the top of the drawings. The small rocks must have formed after the drawings were made.
"It is rare to be able to scientifically date rock art," said Alistair Pike,an archaeological scientist at Britain's University of Bristol. "We were very fortunate that some of the engravings were covered by stalagmites(石笋).
When a test proved that the stalagmites formed 12,800 years ago,the scientists knew the art underneath them had to be at least that old.And some of the animalown, like the European bison, are now extinct--another tip-off that the art is quite old.
The artists came to Creswell Crags,This place is one of the farthest points north reached by our ancient ancestors during the Ice Age.At that time, much of the North Sea was dry,so people could move about more easily.
Some tools and bones found there are 13,000 to 15,000 years old. They show that the travelers hunted horses, reindeer, and arctic hare.Their artwork is similar to art in France and Germany. It tells scientists that the Creswell Crags artists must have had a close connection to peoples several thousand kilometers away-another important clue to understanding how humans spread out across the world.

A.archaeologists can work out the date of cave art
B.radiocarbon dating appeared only in Britain
C.archaeologists are good at using stone tools
D.drawings and painted pictures are really necessary for the formation of small rocks.

A.The art was carved into stone with stone tools.
B.The animals carved in the stone are beautiful.
C.The cave is one of the farthest points in the world.
D.Some pictures were covered by stalagmites more than 10,000 years old.

203478. (2015•师大附中•四模) In modern society there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some value it highly, believing that it is responsible for social progress and prosperity, others say that competition is bad;that it sets one person against another;that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who held the belief that their self - worth relied (依赖) on how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life - and - death affairs. In their single - minded pursuit (追求) of success, the development of many other human qualities is sadly forgotten.
However, while some seem to be lost in the desire to succeed, others take an opposite attitude. In a culture which values only the winner and pays no attention to the ordinary players, they strongly blame competition.Among the most vocal are youngsters who have suffered under competitive pressures from their parents or society.Teaching these young people,I often observe in them a desire to fail. They seem to seek failure by not trying to win or achieve success.By not trying, they always have an excuse: "I may have lost, but it doesn't matter because I really didn't try." What is not usually admitted by themselves is the belief that if they had really tried and lost, that would mean a lot.Such a loss would be a measure of their worth.Clearly, this belief is the same as that of the true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one's self - respect relies on how well one performs in comparison with others. Both are afraid of not being valued.Only as this basic and often troublesome fear begins to dissolve (缓解) can we discover a new meaning in competition.

(1)What does this passage mainly talk about?
A.Competition helps to set up self - respect.
B.Opinions about competition are different among people.
C.Competition is harmful to personal quality development.
D.Failures are necessary experiences in competition.
(2)Why do some people favor competition according to the passage?
A.It pushes society forward.
B.It builds up a sense of duty.
C.It improves personal abilities.
D.It encourages individual efforts.
(3)The underlined phrase "the most vocal" in Paragraph 3 means
A.those who try their best to win
B.those who value competition most highly
C.those who are against competition most strongly
D.those who rely on others most for success
(4)Which point of view may the author agree to
A.Every effort should be paid back.
B.Competition should be encouraged.
C.Winning should be a life - and - death matter.
D.Fear of failure should be removed in competition.

203516. (2015•西工大附中•八模) Do you find getting up in the morning so difficult that it's painful? This might be called laziness, but Dr.Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you labour through your work, you may say that you're"hot".That's true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak. For some people that peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so,but it leads to such familiar monologues(自言自语)as"Get up,John! You'll be late for work again!"The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening.Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.
You can't change your energy cycle, but you can make your life fit it better.Habit can help.Dr.Kleitman believes.Maybe you're sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway.Counteract your cycle to some extent by habitually staying up later than you want to.If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won't change your cycle, but you'll get up energy and work better at your low point.
Get off to a slow start which saves your energy.Get up with a yawn and stretch.Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before putting your feet on the floor.Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before.Whenever possible,do routine work in the afternoon and save tasks requiring more energy for your sharper hours.

205668. (2018•西安中学•高一上期末) After years of heated debate, gray wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park.Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and transported to the park.By last year, the Yellowstone wolf population had grown to more than 170 wolves.
Gray wolves once were seen here and there in the Yellowstone area and much of the continental United States, but they were gradually displaced by human development.By the 1920s,wolves had disappeared from the Yellowstone area. They went farther north into the deep forests of Canada, where there were fewer humans around.
The disappearance of the wolves had many unexpected results.Deer and elk populations - major food sources (来源) for the wolf - grew rapidly. These animals consumed (消耗) large amounts of vegetation (植被),which reduced plant diversity (多样性) in the park.In the absence of wolves, coyote populations also grew quickly. The coyotes killed a large percentage of the park's red foxes, and completely drove away the park's beavers.
As early as 1966,biologists asked the government to consider reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone Park. They hoped that wolves would be able to control the elk and coyote problems. Many farmers opposed the plan because they feared that wolves would kill their farm animals or pets.
The government spent nearly 30 years coming up with a plan to reintroduce the wolves. The U.S.Fish and Wildlife Service carefully monitors and manages the wolf packs in Yellowstone.Today, the debate continues over how well the gray wolf is fitting in at Yellowstone.Elk,deer, and coyote populations are down, while beavers and red foxes have made a comeback. The Yellowstone wolf project has been a valuable experiment to help biologists decide whether to reintroduce wolves to other parts of the country as well.

205640. (2018•西安中学•高一下期末) Imagine, one day, getting out of bed in Beijing and being at your office in Shanghai in only a couple of hours, and then, after a full day of work, going back home to Beijing and having dinner there.
Sounds unusual, doesn't it?But it's not that unrealistic, with the development of China's high-speed railway system. And that's not all.China has an even greater high-speed railway plan to connect the country with Southeast Asia, and eventually Eastern Europe.China is negotiating to extend its own high-speed railway network to up to 17 countries in 10 to 15 years, eventually reaching London and Singapore.
China has proposed three such projects. The first would possibly connect Kunming with Singapore via Vietnam and Malaysia.Another could start in Urumqi and go through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and possibly to Germany. The third would start in the northeast and go north through Russia and then into Western Europe. The new system would still follow China's high-speed railway standard. And the trains would be able to go 346 kilometers an hour, almost as fast as some airplanes.Of course, there are some technical challenges to overcome. There are so many issues that need to be settled, such as safety, rail gauge(轨距),maintenance of railway tracks. But the key issue is really money.China is already spending hundreds of billions of yuan on domestic railway expansion.
China prefers that the other countries pay in natural resources rather than with capital investment.Resources from those countries could stream into China to sustain development. It'll be a win-win project. For other countries, the railway network will definitely create more opportunities for business, tourism and so on,not to mention the better communication among those countries.
For China, such a project would not only connect it with the rest of Asia and bring some much-needed resources, but would also help develop China's far west.We foresee that in the coming decades, millions of people will migrate to the western regions, where the land is empty and resources unused. With high-speed trains, people will set up factories and business centers in the west once and for all.And they'll trade with Central Asian and Eastern European countries.

(1)According to the passage, the greatest challenge to the new high-speed railway plan is
A.technical issues
B.safety of the system
C.financial problems
D.maintenance of railway tracks
(2)China's new high-speed railway plan will be a win-win project because
A.China will get much-needed resources and develop its western regions.
B.China and the countries involved will benefit from the project in various ways.
C.China will develop its railway system and communication with other countries.
D.The foreign countries involved will develop their railway transportation, business and tourism.
(3)Which of the following words best describes the author's attitude towards China's high-speed railway plan?
A.Critical.
B.Reserved.
C.Doubtful.
D.Positive.

205622. (2019•蓝田县•高二下期末) Dolphins are not fish, but warm-blooded animals. They live in groups, and speak to each other in their own language. In this, they are like other animals, such as bees and birds. But dolphins are very different from almost all land animals.Their brain is nearly the same size as our own,and they live a long time-at least twenty or thirty years.Like some animals, dolphins use sound to help them find their way around. They also make these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food.We now know they do not use their ears to receive these sounds, but the lower part of the mouth, called the jaw.
Strangely, dolphins seem to like man,and for thousands of years there have been stories about the dolphin and its friendship with people.
There is a story about sailors in the 19th century. In a dangerous part of the sea off the coast of New Zealand, they learnt to look for a dolphin called Jack. From 1871 to 1903,Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. Then in 1903 a passenger on a boat called The Penguin shot and wounded Jack.He recovered and for nine years more continued to guide all ships through the area--except for The Penguin.

220550. (2016•七十中•高二下二月) Plant cloning has been an agricultural technique used by farmers and gardeners for centuries.Grafting (嫁接) is a common form of plant cloning. Many plants in nature actually clone themselves and reproduce asexually.
Cloned plants are much more predictable than normal plants,so their yield (产量) is more reliable.Cloned plants also reproduce faster, limiting the amount of time between planting and harvesting. It is also often cheaper to produce seeds through cloning than through traditional methods.Plants can essentially be optimized so that farmers or individual growers always have the best seeds available. With more yield at a faster rate, farms can produce more food for more people while decreasing overall costs.
Cloning can be used to wipe out diseases that previously killed off entire fields of crops. This would make plants immune (免疫的) to the kinds of diseases that farmers and gardeners around the world fear each year.Crop failures due to disease and virus could become a thing of the past. Also, plants that are near extinction can be brought back to life through cloning.
Through cloning scientists can develop"super"fruits and vegetables of superior nutritional quality. This could make for a healthier population overall. This is already being done through selective pollination (授粉),and genetic cloning could take it to the next level.
By plant cloning we have a population of identical plants and all these plants equally suffer from the same diseases, but in nature the weak would die and the strong would survive. While there are some dangers to consider with plant cloning, there are plenty of benefits that could prove vital to the propagation (繁衍) of the human species.
(1)The underlined word"optimized"in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by"        ".
A.enlarged
B.produced
C.perfected
D.examined
(2)According to the text,cloned plants
A.have lower yield than normal plants
B.need little care from people
C.resist various kinds of diseases
D.have a short growth cycle

A.To warn the negative effects of plant cloning.
B.To present different kinds of plant cloning.
C.To predict the future of plant cloning.
D.To inform us about the advantages of plant cloning.
