212684. (2025•莲湖区•高一下期中)     As I passed my 50th birthday,I couldn't help but reflect on my long-held dream of becoming a psychotherapist(心理治疗师).In my younger years,I had attempted to take some classes at the local community college, but life's challenges and responsibilities made it difficult to continue.Eventually,I gave up on my dream, thinking it was too late.
Then, one day,I came across a quote by George Eliot: "It's never too late to become what you might have been." These words struck a chord with me and relighted my hope.I decided to give it another try.

202062. (2022•西安中学•三模) During my years teaching communication courses at East Carolina University and College of Charleston,I got to hear many incredible true-life stories through students' presentations.Stories that stick out in my mind include a young man'aring his experience of being falsely diagnosed with a fatal illness, another who failed repeatedly to try out for the baseball team before getting into a game he enjoys much more—golf, and so on.So many unforgettable stories;so much wisdom.
But one story really stands out in my mind to illustrate our incredible power. Here's what happened to this young girl,Suzy.
One Christmas Suzy had her heart set on getting a new Barbie. But not just any Barbie,it was one where she could cut her hair.At least the doll came with scissors. It was the last gift that little seven-year-old Suzy opened, and she felt pure delight.Barbie's hair went from hip length,to waist length,to long layers to irregular,to shoulder length,to pixie (小精灵) short...finally ending with a total buzz cut (圆寸).
Everything was ready and the logical thing to do next was of course for Suzy to cut her own hair. She cut layers and more layers and couldn't wait to show her parents and class.
Little Suzy had a hard time understanding why her mother wanted to take her to a beauty salon to"fix"her hair style. But Suzy firmly believed everyone at school would be so envious of her design concept and skill. Her friends would turn green with envy.Absolutely, her complete and unquestioned confidence in her appearance caused other people to see her beauty.
That story was told 12 years after the fact and Suzy still has pictures of that haircut. She would never cut her hair again, but she cherishes that memory of boundless self-value.
Confidence is like a muscle that you exercise. You decide to be more confident,to choose the positive performance,to take care of yourself, and the feeling of confidence comes to you after that.We all have had that level of confidence at times, but where is it when you need it?

(1)What's the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To introduce the author's background.
B.To tell some incredible stories.
C.To summarize the main idea of the article.
D.To pave the way for the following.
(2)The reason why Suzy wants the Barbie is that         .
A.she will make a comparison
B.she would like to practice hair cutting
C.she feels like showing off her collection
D.she wants to give her classmates a surprise
(3)Which of the following words best describes Suzy?
A.Determined.
B.Absurd.
C.Sympathetic.
D.Aggressive.
(4)What is the best title for the passage?
A.Lifelong Wisdom
B.Confident Scissors
C.Unforgettable Stories
D.Barbie's Encouragement

202557. (2021•长安区•一模) One of the most important things that has happened to me occurred long before I was aware of it.As the story goes,I was three days old and Mom was singing "The Name Game" song to me: "Christine Bo-Bean-Banana-Fanna-Fo-Feen." By day four,I was given a new name - Christine-Bo-Bean,or just Bo-Bee to my mother. Now,I am Bo to her and close friends.
Why is this nickname(昵称)so important to me?I once read a book with a passage about True Names which explains that when a person's true name is spoken, she has a distinct aura(光环)around her.Although I have been Bo to my mother all my life,I recently discovered that my true name is not on my birth certificate;it's the name that is as unique and memorable as I am.
People usually know me as Christine. They still see me as a quiet, bookish child. They don't know who I am now.My most recent hopes, fears, goals, dreams and opinions escape their notice;it is easier to think of me as I was.In their minds, they have a box labeled "Christine" in which I fit neatly, and as Christine,I was content with the perfect packaging.
Those who call me Bo or Bo-Bee really know me.They remember who I was and realize I have changed.Bo is a tight squeeze in the old "Christine" boxes. The Bo I am is ever-changing,ever-growing and ever-learning.
When I was Christine,I was quiet, and easily scared.I feared groups, meeting new people and sharing my opinions.I was more comfortable with a book than my best friend. As Christine,I thought everyone was better than I was.
As Bo,I still love my books, but I want to discuss them.As Bo,my dream is to live where I can experience new things and meet new people.I dream about being alone on a stage lit by a single spotlight;I have that confidence now.I am equal to those I once saw as better than me.
A name shouldn't make such a difference, but sometimes, when a person finds his or her True Name, they develop a new shine visible to friends, family and especially themselves.
I can't always be Bo.Sometimes exposing myself is still scary and I feel too nervous;I want to hide in those old boxes.Mostly, however,I am ready for the world. So,just call me Bo.

(1)When was the author given a nickname?
A.Seven days after she was born.
B.When her Mom sang the song.
C.When she received the old "Christine" box.
D.On the fourth day after she was born.

A.The old boxes are not fit for the author any longer.
B.People usually know the author as Christine but she has changed.
C.The author has to live in the old boxes.

(3)What kind of person was the author in the past?
A.She showed no interest in reading.
B.She loved reading and sharing books with friends.
C.She lacked confidence and preferred to be alone.

(4)What can be a suitable title for the text?

That's when I got an email from my friend. All she asked was "Do you still want one of the kittens? There's one here with no eyes and no one would like to take him." Without thinking,I told her that I did want the kitten.
When we first brought him home,Jack stayed mostly in my room. After about a day he had no issues running around and climbing on everything. At times he gets lost in the house,he'll stop. But we just call him and talk to him and it isn't long before he finds his way back to us.

By Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know,
His house is in the village though.
He will not see me stopping here,
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer (奇怪的),
To stop without a farmhouse near,
Between the woods and frozen lake,
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness (马具) bells a shake,
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep,
Of easy wind and downy flake (鹅毛般的雪花).

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,

205753. (2018•西安一中•高一上期末) Late that afternoon I took the train back to Sydney. There I found another surprise waiting for me.My room had been given to somebody else and they had no room for me.Harkin had known my travel plans and had arranged everything;how could he have booked the room only for three days? There was nothing to be done but to find another hotel. The waiters were happy to find me a new hotel, and when I said that I was happy to stay at the Airport, thinking it might be cheaper than staying in the city, they suggested the Holiday Inn at the airport. There was one small matter:the room rate was$300 per night. The best hotel in Katoomba had wanted only$145.I asked if there were anything cheaper they might suggest but they warned that most hotels would already be full by this time.
The hotel was far from the train station,so I'd best take a taxi,at$25.On the way to the Holiday Inn,we passed a hotel just two blocks from the Holiday Inn that advertised a room rate of $104.At the desk I asked if their room rate could go down a lot. "No,this is a 4-star hotel,"the waiter told me. "In that case," I replied, "I'll just walk the two blocks to the cheap hotel."But she warned me that they were probably full and that if I didn't take the room,it might not be available if I came back. Finally,I decided to take the room.

205770. (2018•西安一中•高二上期末) I am Henry Jekyll.I was born in the 1800s.I inherited(继承) a large fortune,a healthy body and an excellent mind.I was naturally hard-working and soon I was very successful in my job.So the outside world saw a serious,hard-working,successful doctor.Behind this quiet character, however, was a wild,fun-loving,irresponsible young man. Both of them were me.They lived together in the same body.
"Was it possible," I wondered, "to find a drug that could give each side of my character its own separate face and body?"
After much thought and careful study I believed I had found the answer.I had read many scientific books and spent many hours in my laboratory, searching for the right mixture of chemicals to make my drug.At last I got everything ready.
Late one night,I mixed everything together and prepared my drug.I watched the smoke rising from the liquid as its color changed from red to purple and at last to green. Then, bravely,I drank every bitter drop.
I felt a violent sickness in my stomach and a terrible pain in all my bones. The room seemed to turn round and round and I trembled with fear. Then the fear and pain disappeared and a strange, sweet feeling took its place.Wild thoughts danced through my mind-the wild passions of an evil and cruel stranger. But inside myself I felt younger, lighter, more carefree than ever before. "If this is pure evil," I thought, "I like it."
I stood there, enjoying these strange new thoughts and passions and suddenly realized that I waorter. So I decided to go to my bedroom in my new body and take a look at myself in the mirror there. As I came into my room,I saw Edward Hyde for the first time.
At that time, the good side of my character was stronger than the evil side.Henry Jekyll had his faults, but he was mostly a good, kind man.I believe that is the reason why Edward Hyde was so much smaller than Henry Jekyll. But that was not the only difference between the two men.Henry Jekyll had a kind, open, honest face. But pure evil stared out of Edward Hyde's eyes.I felt no dislike, however.Indeed,I welcomed him.Edward Hyde was me,young and strong and full of life.

(1)The writer wanted to find a drug to
A.discover the right mixture of chemicals
B.create separate bodies for both sides
C.observe the change of the chemicals

205788. (2017•西北大附中•高一下期末) If you live in a big city, there are many things to drive you crazy on your daily route, and it's not just overcrowded subway trains.
Vicky Zhao is a mainlander working in Hong Kong. For her,one thing she can't put up with is people standing on the wrong side of the escalator(自动扶梯) in subway stations."Escalators help us move faster and save time.It isn't a place to rest,"the 24-year-old says."I often see tourists block the way with their suitcases or chatting on the escalators during rush hours. It annoys me to no end."
Admitting she is not the patient type,Zhao says things are much better in Hong Kong than in cities on the mainland where"stand right, walk left"signs are often ignored.
The logic behind the"stand right, walk left"escalator etiquette(礼仪) seems obvious.Even though you may want to catch your breath while you're transported up or down, you should still consider others and leave enough space for people in a hurry,so that they can run and catch the train.
Many cities' escalators, including London's and Beijing's,use the"stand right, walk left"system to speed up the flow of people.(Australia is an exception and you should stand on the left side instead.) But some cities discourage people from moving on escalators out of safety reasons. In Hong Kong's subway stations there are regular announcements asking people to"stand still"on escalators.Even so,most people in this fast-paced city observe the"stand right, walk left"etiquette.
But the people who stand on escalators defend themselves by telling the walkers not to be so impatient. The BBC quotes one stander as saying:"If the person is in such a rush, why not just take the stairs?Even when the escalator is packed and there's nowhere to move,I see these same people complaining about not being able to pass."
Whatever the escalator etiquette is in the place you live or visit,do what most people are doing and always be mindful of others:leave enough space between each other, don't stay at the end of the escalator, and if someone is blocking your way,a simple"excuse me"is enough.

(1)When on the escalator,a majority of local people in Hong Kong
A.stand still as the railway stations require.
B.ignore the"stand right,walk left"signs
C.use the stairs instead of escalators.
D.follow the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
(2)What can be inferred from the 6th paragraph?
A.Not everyone follows the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
B.The BBC is against the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
C.People should be patient and take the stairs if possible.
D.People shouldn't complain about the crowded escalators.
(3)Which of the following statements is the writer's opinion?
A.People should stand right no matter where they are.
B.People should do as the Romans do and consider others.
C.People should do as they like on the escalators.
D.People should be seriously criticized when they block the way.

205805. (2017•西北大附中•高二下期末) I had often dreamt of the possibility of spending a year away from my hometown of Leeds in England, living in a foreign country.By the time I was old enough, however,I thought that my language was going to hold me back.
However, luckily for me,Leeds University, where I was studying at the time, made it possible for any student, even people like myself speaking only one language,to study abroad. Before I knew it I was boarding a plane for Salzburg,Austria.I wasn't quite sure what to expect of the experience ahead of me but I was prepared to accept the challenge.
The university was quite small but the classes were large. Also,Austrian students usually take five years to complete their courses,so studying was somewhat more relaxed than at home.Austrian students go home quite often, too. Therefore, the foreign students had to socialise with each other quite a lot, which didn't help our language skills.
Salzburg itself is a picture-postcard Austrian city.It is also famous for being the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for The Sound of Music. As a result,it is usually very busy with tourists.I also found that it doesn't have a lot going on for young people,in comparison to Leeds.
There were, however, many advantages to living in Salzburg. For example, get on a train and you can be in Prague,Rome or Krakow within a matter of hours.By the end of my year in Salzburg,I had visited eight other countries in Europe.
After spending a year overseas,I went back to my course in Leeds much more focused on what I wanted to get out of my last year and more appreciative of the opportunities (机会) university provides. The year in Salzburg really showed me that you get a lot more out of a place when you live there compared to when you are just travelling through.I'd recommend all students to spend a year studying abroad if they can.

(2)Compared with Leeds University, the university in Salzburg
A.provides more social events

A.it's a good location for travelling
B.it has a high-speed rail network
C.it's the hometown of Mozart
D.it's full of foreign tourists
(4)What does the author think of his experience of studying abroad?

205822. (2017•西安中学•高二下期末) On June 10,2003,I graduated from U of T,Scarborough. As I stood at University College waiting with hundreds of others,I suddenly felt overcome with emotion. My very long and personal journey to convocation had started 20 years earlier on the St.George campus.
I first enrolled at U of T through the Transitional Year Programme in 1983.At the time I was a 30-year-old mother of two girls and married to"the boy next door."I was both excited and terrified, and felt a little like Rita in the movie Educating Rita-traveling daily to classes in high heels.I decided that it would be better for my family if I attended classes closer to home,so I transferred to Scarborough for my second year. After picking up the girls from school,I'd bring them back to the studio where I rehearsed.Much to my horror, they would crawl around on the catwalks high above me.They were 10 and 12 and loved being at"Mom's school."
My life changed drastically that year.On June 10,1986,my husband of 13 years was killed in a horrific accident.I picked up my life the best I could under the circumstances and returned to U of T,but failed to get all the credits I needed.Twenty years later,on the eve of my 50th birthday,I e-mailed an old professor, who encouraged me to sign up for a new class he was teaching about writing for the theatre. This time I made it all the way through.
As I stepped inside Convocation Hall,I searched the crowd for my girls, now in their thirties. They were in the highest balcony, waving frantically at me-just as they had done from the catwalk in my drama class so long ago.I will never forget the look on the girls faces as they called out"Hi Mom."I finally felt complete.
