Dear Tina, I made a friend from England in our school.Once in the dining hall,I told him the carrots were delicious. He laughed and said they usually use "tasty" or "yummy". "Delicious" was a little strange. Then I find that the English we learn in school doesn't always match how native (本地的) speakers speak in real life. What can I do to make it better? Dave |
Hi Dave, During my time in China,I had the same experience. Some of my friends would say "I seldom play sports".But we Americans often say "I don't really play sports".I think it's fine because every native speaker understands them when they speak. This is a common part of language learning. When I was learning Chinese,I learned "ni hao ma" in the textbook, but in China,it is not common in everyday conversations. In my eyes, the Chinese education does a great job teaching English,so keep listening carefully to your teacher. In your free time, you can watch some movies, and read books to learn more about English. And then use what you have learned and practice speaking with your friends.
