218470. (2022•长安区一中•高二上一月) One way to prevent anxiety from getting out of control is to recognize its benefits. It is a mistake to think that we'd make better decisions if only we keep our feelings under control.Instead,a mix of feelings like anxiety and logical thinking leads to sound decision-making.It's true that there is plenty of research showing that higher levels of anxiety can make us more likely to avoid risks in our decision-making.There is also evidence that anxiety can increase the attention you pay to relevant information.
Recent studies have shown that people who are anxious about their relationship (for example, they fear to be abandoned) tend to be better at recognizing people who tell lies and are more likely to raise the alarm when danger is present.
In the real world though,it's worth realizing that feeling anxious once in a while is extremely common. It communicates to others that you care, and what's more,it's probably a sign that you are intelligent. At least two published studies have identified that people who score higher on measures of anxiety also tend to perform better on intelligence tests. This seems reasonable:if you're a thinker, you are sure to be always thinking about the future and imagine possible plots, including bad ones.
The important thing,if you are a worrywart(杞人忧天者),is not to let your fear destroy your dreams. And don't bury your head in the sand.Instead, act on your fears--do the research as well as preparation,so rather than walking blindly into that which you fear, you meet the challenge in full readiness.
When anxiety beats you,or casts a shadow over your life, this is a serious problem. No one is denying that. But like everyday anxiety of this kind that you feel before a presentation or interview, you needn't see it as your enemy.Anxiety is an important feeling, developed through evolution. As for people who are fairly anxious by nature, there is reason for cheer, too.Your nerves(神经紧张)are a sign of your watchfulness.Listen to them and act on them. Then you can turn your nervousness into your advantage.

(1)What can we infer from the first paragraph about anxiety?
A.It can make us more willing to take risks.
B.It can stop us from thinking logically.
C.It can enable us to be more focused.
D.It can be the only reason for all bad decisions.
(2)What can we learn from the passage?
A.Feeling anxious occasionally is a sign of intelligence.
B.Anxious people have difficulty discovering liars.
C.Feeling anxious is more likely to put people at risk.
D.Anxious people are less sensitive to danger.
(3)How should we deal with anxiety in the author's opinion?
A.Avoid being defeated by it.
B.Take action to control it.
C.Regard it as our enemy.
D.Treat it as a minor feeling.
(4)What is the theme of the passage?
A.Effective ways to prevent anxiety.
B.Common misunderstandings about anxiety.
C.Tips on how to keep a good mood.
D.Unexpected benefits of anxiety.

214385. (2019•师大附中•高二上期中) Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck.I'm not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances don't come into play because they do.Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that's just the reality of how life is.
However,to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And,in addition to that,in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practising. To become great at certain things,it'll require even more time, time that most people won't put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love.If you don't enjoy what you do,it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It's sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there's a huge chance that you're wrong anyway.
Whatever you do,if you want to become great at it,you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction, and over a long period of time.If you're not willing to put in the time and work, don't expect to receive any rewards.Consistent, hard work won't guarantee you the level of success you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become really good at whatever it is you put all that work into.

(1)Paragraph 1 mainly talks about       .
A.the reasons for success
B.the meaning of success
C.the standards of success
D.the importance of success
(2)Successful people suggest doing what one loves because       .
A.work makes one feel pain
B.one tends to enjoy his work
C.one gives up his work easily
D.it takes a lot of time to succeed
(3)What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A.Successful people like to show their great skills.
B.People sometimes succeed without luck or talent.
C.People need to achieve success at the cost of life.
D.It helps to think that luck or talent leads to success.
(4)What is the main theme of the passage?
A.Having a goal is vital to success.
B.Being good is different from being great.
C.One cannot succeed without time and practice.
D.Luck, talent and family help to achieve success.

205879. (2017•西安中学•高一下期末) Today just as technology changed the face of industry, farms have experienced an"agricultural revolution".On the farm of today, machines provide almost all the power.
One of the most important benefits will be the farm computer.A few forward-looking farmers are already using computers to help them run their farms more efficiently. The computers help them keep more accurate records so they can make better decisions on what crops to plant, how much livestock(家畜) to buy, when to sell their products, and how much profit they can expect. Many computer companies have been developing special computer programs just for farmers.Programs are being written for pig producers, grain farmers, potato farmers, and dairy farmers. In the future, farmers will be able to purchase computer programs made to their needs.Because of the growing importance of computers on the farm, students at agricultural colleges are required to take computer classes in addition to their normal agricultural courses. There can be no doubt that farmers will rely on computers even more in the future. While the old-time farm depended on horse power, and modern farms depend on machine power, farms of the future will depend on computer power.
Another technological advance which is still in the experimental stage is the robot,a real"mechanized(机械的) hired hand"that will be able to move and,in some ways, think like a human being.Agricultural engineers believe that computer-aided robots will make shocking changes in farming before the end of the century.Unlike farmers of the present, farmers of the future will find that many day-to-day tasks will be done for them.Scientists are now developing robots that will be able to shear(修剪) sheep, drive tractors, and harvest fruit.Even complex jobs will be done by robots. For example,in order to milk their cows, farmers must first drive them into the barn, then connect them to the milking machines, watch the machines, and disconnect them when they are finished. In the future, this will all be done by robots. In addition, when the milking is completed, the robots will automatically check to make sure that the milk is pure. The complete change of the farm is far in the future, but engineers expect that some robots will be used before long.

(1)Why are students at agricultural colleges required to take computer classes?
A.Because computers help them keep more accurate records.
B.Because they need to develop special computer programs just for farmers.
C.Because computers will be more and more important on future farms.
D.Because computer classes are more important than normal agricultural courses.
(2)Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A.Computers are now used by many farmers to help run their farms.
B.Computers can help farmers to make better decisions and predictions.
C.Both computers and robots have been in use on today's farms.
D.Farms may be totally changed in the coming years.
(3)What's the author's attitude toward the agricultural revolution?
A.Positive
B.Negative
C.Doubtful
D.Indifferent
(4)What is the best title for the whole passage?

206056. (2016•七十中•高一下期末) Silence means differently in different cultures.Silences may be thoughtful,or they may be empty when a person has nothing to say.A silence in a conversation may also show stubbornness,or worry.Silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as extremely uncomfortable;therefore attempts may be made to fill every gap with conversation.Persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a person's needs.
Many Native Americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do.Therefore, when a person from one of these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what maybe implied(暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. In these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.
Other cultures may use silence in other ways, particularly when dealing with conflicts among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. For example,Russian,French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. However,Mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority rather than be rude to that person by arguing with him or her.In still another use, persons in Asian cultures may view silence as a sign of respect, particularly to an elder or a person in authority.
Nurses and other care-givers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety their patients may be experiencing.Nurseould recognize their own personal and cultural construction of silence so that a patient's silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnecessarily.A nurse who understands the healing(治愈) value of silence can use this understanding to assist in the care of patients from their own and from other cultures.

205980. (2016•西安一中•高二下期末) University-the best days of my life!I made lots of friends in my student dorm, went to great parties, joined the debating society…and, well,I did some work too-but I must admit my lecturers were very patient with my tardiness(拖拉).
It's easy to look back at our university days through rose-tinted spectacles but the truth is that when we first arrived on campus, most of us were out of our comfort zone.
In fact,a survey of students at Imperial College London has revealed that 3 out of 4 students experience high levels of stress,or a mental health condition, during their time at college. The survey, completed by over a thousand students, also found that 70% of those that experience stress do so at least once a week, and 9% of students feel stressed constantly.
Kirsty,a student at Exeter University, didn't enjoy her first days in college. She says:"When I first got to university I don't think I'd realized that I'd forgotten how to make friends.I'd been with the same school friends for seven years, and so I was trying to balance social success with academic success while learning how to look after myself at quite a young age."
Dr Ruth Caleb of the counseling service at Brunel University in London has some tips that should make life easier for students before they set off for university. She says:"Certain things that I think it would be very helpful for students to have put in place are an ability to do the practical things of life-to do the washing,to do the cleaning and so on-being able to cook.Budgeting is extremely important in university life."And Caleb adds:"You should learn how to spend time on your own comfortably."

205943. (2016•西北大附中•高二下期末) Visualization is closely related to positive thinking. It is used by athletes, musicians, actors, speakers, and others to improve their performance in stressful situations. How does it work?Listen to long-distance runner Vicki Huber:
Right before a big race,I'll picture myself running, and I will try and put all of the other competitors in the race into my mind. Then I will try and imagine every possible situation I might find myself in…behind someone, being pushed, different positions on the track, laps to go,and,of course the final part. And I always picture myself winning the race,no matter what happens during the event.
Of course,Huber doesn't win every race she runs, but research haown that the kind of mental imaging she describes can significantly increase athletic performance. It has also shown that visualization can help speakers control their stage fright.
The key to visualization is creating a vivid mental blueprint in which you see yourself succeeding in your speech.Picture yourself in your classroom rising to speak.See yourself at the lectern(放演讲稿的讲桌),self-assured,making eye contact(接触)with your audience and delivering your introduction in a firm, clear voice.Feel your confidence growing as your listeners get more and more caught up in what you are saying.Imagine your sense of achievement as you conclude the speech knowing you have done your very best.
As you create these images in your mind's eye,be realistic but stay focused on the positive aspects of your speech.Don't allow negative images to affect the positive ones.Acknowledge your nervousness, but picture yourself overcoming it to give an effective presentation. If one part of the speech always seems to give you trouble, visualize yourself getting through it without any problems. And be specific. The clearer your mental pictures, the more successful you are likely to be.
As with your physical rehearsal(排练)of the speech, this kind of mental rehearsal should be repeated several times in the days before you speak. It doesn't guarantee that every speech will turn out exactly the way you imagine it-and it certainly is no replacement for thorough preparation. But it is a proven way to help control your nerves and to make a successful presentation.
(1)Huber's visualization of her races
A.is detailed and thorough
B.is used during the event
C.is based on real pictures
D.is created with other runners
(2)According to the text,if you run into difficulty when preparing a speech, you should
A.ignore the negative aspects
B.do the mental imaging later
C.imagine finishing it smoothly
D.create clearer mental pictures
(3)What do we learn about mental rehearsal?
A.It usually produces the desired results.
B.It may be a good way to calm you down.
C.It is more important than physical rehearsal.
D.It is a good chance to show your imagination.

For me,making the move to Israel is the realization of a dream that has lasted for my 47 years of life.I have always known that Israel is my home.Over the years Israel has been in my heart, but I have found a number of reasons to put off making it my permanent residence(永久定居地):kids, the economy(经济),education…You name an excuse, and at some point I have probably used it.

205880. (2017•西安中学•高一下期末) A new study in December's Journal of Family Psychology says that working mothers report being healthier and happier than the stay-at-home mothers. The author,Dr.Cheryl Buehler, concludes that"A mother's economic role is central to family life, and it supports her well-being and her parenting."What about the miserably conflicted working mother crying at her desk because her baby's first words were"au pair(家务女工)"?
Though Buehler's study relies on data from more than 1,300 mothers of young children across the U.S.-tracked over a 10-year period-the research is far from perfect. To begin with,it's pretty old,as it covers the decade beginning in 1991.So it's unfair to ask whether contemporary(当代的)working moms, whose companies have been downsized(减员的) and whose bosses may expect them to turn on their Black Berries for 24 hours, are quite as peaceful as their Clinton-time mothers.Even more importantly, the study focused on part-time working moms.
But what really makes this study unique is that the focus is on the mothers as well as the children. After decades of research on how working mothers affect their children, somebody's finally gotten around to investigate how it affects the moms. The study also takes a big step to the ongoing need for flexibility(灵活性) in the American workplace-and at home, because this is the power of balance. What's right for any family is what makes the members within it as happy and fulfilled as possible.
The idea that both work and parenting-especially in combination-can contribute to a woman's mental and physical health is good news. But we're complicated beings and the things that satisfy us are diverse(多元的).They're our children and our careers.Nobody said it was easy. But maybe if you want to have it all,a good place to start is by doing it all.

(1)What can we infer from the underlined sentence in the first paragraph?
A.Working mother doesn't like her job.
B.Working mother is often not very happy.
C.Working mother hates the au pair very much.
D.Working mother loves to cry to relax herself.
(2)What do we know from the second paragraph?
A.Part time working mothers are happier than before.
B.The Clinton-time mothers are much busier than today's.
C.Today's moms have much better cellphones than before.
D.The contemporary working moms have much more pressure.
(3)In the third paragraph,the author
A.emphasizes the flexibility in the American working time
B.believes it is not very important to do this kind for research
C.loves to see the research on how working mothers affect themselves
D.considers study on how working mothers affect their children necessary.

205859. (2017•西安中学•高二上期末) When my daughter,Sophie, was admitted to a college,we were very happy, but a little worried about becoming empty nesters.I knew I had to do something to help myself adapt, starting with the summer before she left.
Sophie had a pack of colorful T-shirts.I knew she wouldn't wear them anymore,so I decided to make a quilt(被子)out of them for her bed at college. It focused my energy, and also let me relive some memories.I tried to work on the quilt when Sophie wasn't at home---which turned out to be often. She was very busy with her friends.Even when she was around, her door waut more than usual.I felt a bit hurt. After all,we didn't have much time together before she went to college,I was already missing her,and she hadn't ever left yet.
When we arrived at the college,a wave of emotion flooded me.I tried to hold it back, but Sophie saw it in my face. She took a big red book from her bag. "I made this for you, mom," she said. Then I knew why she had been staying behind a closed door that summer. It was an album of photographs documenting the life of our family over the last 17 years.
I broke into tears. Some of it was sadness at having to let her go,but some of it was joy.I knew that our connection was more powerful than ever, and that we'd always be connected by the strongest of threads, the love that went into every stitch of her quilt and every photo of my album.
In Sophie's dormitory I unfolded the quilt on her bed.For a moment she was speechless. Then she threw her arms around me. "Mom,I love you," she said. One of her new friends was calling her outside.Sophie turned, and I let her go.

213098. (2023•蓝田县•高一上期中) Cars could be able to "talk" to each other to warn about dangers on the roads using 5 G technology in future, according to researchers.
Researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) believe 5 G may enable driverless cars to send each other messages about dangers such as ice or deep holes.
And they believe the high-speed,low -delay (低延迟的) nature of 5 G will improve driverless cars to the point where they will be safer than the cars being driven today. They predict the number of road traffic accidents which cause more than 1.3 million deaths and up to 50 million people injured worldwide every year will drop greatly as a result.
Dr Dimitrios,a member of the research group, said, "To have a better idea of what the future will look like, think of having cars that not only use sensors(感应器) to find what's around them, but also can talk to each other about safety information nearby."
"I'm sure anyone who has had a bad experience on frozen roads would have benefited from knowing about the dangerous conditions ahead of time so they could have changed their speed or,if possible, even avoided that route (路线) altogether."
With the help of 5 G,an early warning system in vehicles will come into use within the next few years.Cars that are close enough to the danger area will pass warning messages to other cars around them using communication technologies, but also to cars further away using 5 G,fast and reliably. Then those cars will send the same information to cars near them and so on,forming a joined-up.

205822. (2017•西安中学•高二下期末) On June 10,2003,I graduated from U of T,Scarborough. As I stood at University College waiting with hundreds of others,I suddenly felt overcome with emotion. My very long and personal journey to convocation had started 20 years earlier on the St.George campus.
I first enrolled at U of T through the Transitional Year Programme in 1983.At the time I was a 30-year-old mother of two girls and married to"the boy next door."I was both excited and terrified, and felt a little like Rita in the movie Educating Rita-traveling daily to classes in high heels.I decided that it would be better for my family if I attended classes closer to home,so I transferred to Scarborough for my second year. After picking up the girls from school,I'd bring them back to the studio where I rehearsed.Much to my horror, they would crawl around on the catwalks high above me.They were 10 and 12 and loved being at"Mom's school."
My life changed drastically that year.On June 10,1986,my husband of 13 years was killed in a horrific accident.I picked up my life the best I could under the circumstances and returned to U of T,but failed to get all the credits I needed.Twenty years later,on the eve of my 50th birthday,I e-mailed an old professor, who encouraged me to sign up for a new class he was teaching about writing for the theatre. This time I made it all the way through.
As I stepped inside Convocation Hall,I searched the crowd for my girls, now in their thirties. They were in the highest balcony, waving frantically at me-just as they had done from the catwalk in my drama class so long ago.I will never forget the look on the girls faces as they called out"Hi Mom."I finally felt complete.

205805. (2017•西北大附中•高二下期末) I had often dreamt of the possibility of spending a year away from my hometown of Leeds in England, living in a foreign country.By the time I was old enough, however,I thought that my language was going to hold me back.
However, luckily for me,Leeds University, where I was studying at the time, made it possible for any student, even people like myself speaking only one language,to study abroad. Before I knew it I was boarding a plane for Salzburg,Austria.I wasn't quite sure what to expect of the experience ahead of me but I was prepared to accept the challenge.
The university was quite small but the classes were large. Also,Austrian students usually take five years to complete their courses,so studying was somewhat more relaxed than at home.Austrian students go home quite often, too. Therefore, the foreign students had to socialise with each other quite a lot, which didn't help our language skills.
Salzburg itself is a picture-postcard Austrian city.It is also famous for being the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for The Sound of Music. As a result,it is usually very busy with tourists.I also found that it doesn't have a lot going on for young people,in comparison to Leeds.
There were, however, many advantages to living in Salzburg. For example, get on a train and you can be in Prague,Rome or Krakow within a matter of hours.By the end of my year in Salzburg,I had visited eight other countries in Europe.
After spending a year overseas,I went back to my course in Leeds much more focused on what I wanted to get out of my last year and more appreciative of the opportunities (机会) university provides. The year in Salzburg really showed me that you get a lot more out of a place when you live there compared to when you are just travelling through.I'd recommend all students to spend a year studying abroad if they can.

(1)In the author's opinion, what may have prevented his studying abroad?
A.His not being old enough.
B.His fearing the culture shock.
C.His becoming homesick easily.
D.His not knowing a foreign language.
(2)Compared with Leeds University, the university in Salzburg
A.provides more social events
B.has longer university years
C.has more foreign students
D.offers more small classes
(3)One advantage the author mentions about Salzburg is that
A.it's a good location for travelling
B.it has a high-speed rail network
C.it's the hometown of Mozart
D.it's full of foreign tourists
(4)What does the author think of his experience of studying abroad?
A.He benefited a lot from it.
B.He regretted studying abroad.
C.It was far from what he expected.
D.It badly affected his studies at home.
