217735. (2025•师大附中•高二下期末)     Pantone'ade of 2025 has been announced and it's Mocha Mousse(摩卡慕斯色)is a calm, lightly pigmented(天然色的) color. It's''a mellow brown combined with a sensorial and comforting warmth",Pantone Color Institute vice president Laurie Pressman says.

"Little treat culture really goes back to boosting our sense of personal comfort and wellness , "she says .That the color reflects a cup of coffee with too much cream or a piece of smooth milk chocolate is intentional. The name too is meant to satisfy your taste buds.
Aside from the more obvious chocolate connection,Pressman and Leatrice Eiseman, the Pantone Color Institute's executive director, state that the shade creates a sense of harmony and warmth,"The overriding theme as we went into looking for this year's color was this whole idea of harmony, "Pressman says.As the world becomes more complex, consumers are searching for inner peace and balance, she says.
"We have enough going on outside of us we' re looking for things that are softer and things that are lighter, "Pressman says.As for those"dopamine(多巴胺) brights",there's a place for those as well, but mocha mousse reflects a mood much larger than any brief contemporary trend, she says.
Part of the joy of the annual reveal,Eiseman says is that it unleashes(释放)a"necessity to talk about color".In sparking that conversation another more subtle one emerges alongside it-a dialog about how we feel our years went and what mood we want to represent this chapter at both a communal and individual level.
Whether the whole world nods its head,or cock sit to the side in confusion instead, over this reveal. It will have sparked a debate with cultural implications that stretches beyond"mocha mousse"

202728. (2020•西安中学•六模) Six Chinese survived the tragedy of the Royal Mail Ship Titanic, but disappeared soon after. Now a British documentarian,Arthur Jones, will uncover stories and histories of discrimination.
There were eight Chinese between the ages of 24 and 37 on the Titanic, sharing one 59-pound third-class ticket, but only six survived from its sinking. When they arrived in the United States, they were not helped like the other 705 survivors.Instead they were forced to leave the country within 24 hours because of the Chinese Exclusion Act signed in 1882.
Some westerners questioned the six Chinese survivors as stowaways and claimed that they survived because they secretly climbed on the lifeboat or dressed as women to board lifeboats.
But after visiting foreign documents, museums and cooperating with American and Chinese historians,Jones believes they did not do anything disgraceful in order to survive the disaster. "This is not only a story about the survivors of Titanic, but also a story of a group of brave Chinese people exploring the outside world at that time," he said.
When the ship hit an iceberg, like other third-class passengers the eight Chinese were released from the locked gates at last, but not allowed to board the lifeboat.Luckily, four of them boarded a small broken boat, and one was rescued by another lifeboat.Another one,Fang Lang, floated on a piece of wooden board in the sea.The only returning lifeboat saved him from freezing.
To restore their real stories,Jones and his team found Fang Lang's son in Wisconsin,US.Also,Jones will visit Taishan city in south China's Guangdong province, recorded as the survivors' hometown. The filmmakers also established a website,whoarethesix.com,for more clues.
Ordinarily, people think of Titanic as a story of rich white people, but don't know there were people from all over the world, including Chinese. "Their stories are never told," Jones said.

201788. (2024•西安中学•五模)     Artificial intelligence has taken the world by storm over the course of the last few years. Some people love it,some people fear it,but there's no question that it's here to stay, and in some cases, help in unexpected ways.
One of those ways is being piloted in Kingston,in an effort to make the planning and proposal stage of road-building smoother.Software company RedBit Development, road safety construction group RSG International, and a Queen's University student organization called QMIND,are working together on the project.
"We've decided to do this partnership with all three of us to see if we can do something new in the construction industry," says Mark Arteaga, president and founder of RedBit Development. They're working on an AI-based assistant to help engineers, architects and contractors prepare proposals for road infrastructure (基础建设) and similar projects. "The AI kind of has all of the information and all the data," says Arteaga. "It knows which bid or proposal it needs to do or what it's working on,and then the person putting together the proposal will ask it questions."
For the students,it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get hands-on experience with real world companies, using the tech of the future. "Until very recently, there was a very high barrier of entry to really get your hands on applied AI,especially when it's going to be implemented in the real world," says Marcelo Chaman Mallqui, managing director of operations for QMIND. "Being able to be at QMIND provides these opportunities for all of the members."
The partnership is still in the early stages, what they're calling the "discovery" stage, which involves heavy research and data collection to help make the AI assistant as efficient and correct as possible. As for the future of this project,Chaman Mallqui says he's excited to see this project through and pass down the knowledge to current and future QMIND members. "It's kind of learning and living through each other," he says. "You're able to experience multiple lifetimes before you finish your own."

(1)Why is the project being carried out?        ?
A.To help promote Artificial Intelligence.
B.To ensure the safety of road construction.
C.To assist in preparing proposals for road-building.
D.To enhance cooperation in the construction industry.
(2)How does the project benefit the students at QMIND?        ?
A.It offers them employment in real-world companies.
B.It provides them with real-world experiences of AI tech.
C.It teaches them how to apply AI tech to school education.
D.It offers them a chance to learn from an AI-based assistant.
(3)What can be inferred from the last paragraph?        ?
A.The future of QMIND looks uncertain.
B.The partnership still has a long way to go.
C.The AI assistant is efficient at doing heavy research.
D.The project helps its members establish life-long friendship.
(4)Which of the following is the best title for the text?        ?
A.Queen's University students help cutting edge AI project
B.Artificial intelligence has become a hit again in Canada
C.Partnership of AI companies brings about a new discovery

203285. (2016•华清中学•二模) Last year more than one million Filipinos worked abroad as servants, nurses, sailors and in other difficult but low-paid jobs.Southeast Asians leave their poorer countries for their richer neighbours.
Many of these wage-earners return in the end.In the meantime, they send home huge amounts of money-in the Philippines' case, over 10% of its GDP.Between January and November, the amount was up 18% on the same period of 2005.Poverty and unemployment are still high in the Philippines and other labour-exporting (劳务输出) countries. They would be far worse but for this outflow of bodies and inflow of dollars. As for those Asian countries that import (输入) labour,as in Europe, falling birth rates mean they are going to need more foreign workers.
On January 13th leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) signed an agreement to help migrant (流动的) workers-with the realization that the flow of labour between their countries is a growing problem that they cannot blame on outsiders.A 2005 study showed that 8.4 million Southeast Asians worked outside their home countries, but this did not include the huge numbers of Indonesians doing so without papers. So the true total is probably rather higher.
Of the ten ASEAN countries, the Philipines,Indonesia,Myanmar,Cambodia,Vietnam and Laos export labour,Singapore and Brunei import it,and Thailand and Malaysia do both.Sziraczki of the UN's International Labour Organization points out that,in the next ten years, the total labour force of the worker-exporting countrieould grow by about a third. It makes sense to work on the problem before it gets out of control.
People in the receiving countries seem to be worried about competition for their jobs. Most Thais said their government should admit no more foreign workers, and a few thought otherwise.Even in Singapore, just over half of people are against admitting more foreign workers.Malaysians think that the increase in foreign workers has worsened crime rates (犯罪率).
(1)It can be inferred from the case of the Philippines that
A.the country is Asia's main source of migrant workers
B.labour exports lead to a 10% growth of its GDP
C.the outflow of labour helps solve its social problems
D.the country both exports and imports labour force
(2)The flow of labour is a growing problem because
A.there is a greater flow of labour than reported
B.more Indonesians work abroad without papers
C.some countries suffer from low birth rates
D.the ASEAN is against admitting foreign workers
(3)For the labour-importing countries, the flow of labour may lead to
A.higher birth rates
B.lower crime rates
C.greater money inflows
D.stronger job competition
(4)The writer of the text seems to
A.support the flow of labour between countries
B.report fairly on the question of labour flow
C.express his worries over the ASEAN's decision
D.regard the outflow of labour as a serious problem.

203283. (2016•华清中学•二模) When former American President Bill Clinton traveled to South Korea to visit President Kim Young Sam,he repeatedly referred to the Korean president's wife as Mrs.Kim.By mistake,President Clinton's advisers thought that Koreans have the same naming customs as the Japanese.Clinton had not been told that,in Korea, wives keep their family names.President Kim Young Sam's wife was named Sohn Myong Suk.Therefore, she should be addressed (称谓) as Mrs.Sohn.
President Clinton arrived in Korea directly after leaving Japan and had not changed his culture thinking patterns. His failure to follow Korean customs gave the impression that Korea was not as important to him as Japan.
In addition to Koreans, some Asian husbands and wives do not share the same family names. This practice often puzzles English-speaking teachers when talking with a pupil's parents. They become puzzled about the student's correct last name.Placing the family name first is common among a number of Asian cultures.
Mexican naming customs are different as well. When a woman marries, she keeps her family name and adds her husband's name after the word de (of). This affects how they fill in forms in the United States. When requested to fill in a middle name, they generally write the father's family name. But Mexicans are addressed by the family name of the mother. This often causes puzzlement.
Here are a few ways to deal with such difficult situations:don't always think that a married woman uses her husband's last name.Remember that in many Asian cultures, the order of first and last names is reversed (颠倒).Ask which name a person would prefer to use.If the name is difficult to pronounce, admit it,and ask the person to help you say it correctly.
(1)The story of Bill Clinton is used to
A.improve US-Korean relations
B.introduce the topic of the text
C.describe his visit to Korea
D.tell us how to address a person
(2)When a woman marries in Korea,she
A.continues to use her family name
B.uses her husband's given name
C.shares her husband's family name
D.adds her husband's given name to hers
(3)To address a married woman properly,you'd better
A.use her middle name
B.use her husband's first name
C.ask her which name she likes
D.change the order of her names.

(2016•西工大附中•六模) Grant Wood's American Gothic caused a stir(轰动)in 1930 when it was exhibited for the first time at the Art Institute of Chicago and awarded a prize of 300 dollars.Newspapers across the country carried the story, and the painting of a farmer and a younger woman posed before a white house brought the artist instant fame.
In 1930,Grant Wood,an American painter with European training, noticed a small white house built in the small southern Iowa town of Eldon.Wood was so fascinated by it that he decided to paint the house along with the kind of people he thought should live in that house. In the painting, the farmer is modeled on his dentist.Dr.Byron McKeeby. His younger sister Nan served as a model for the woman (imagined to be the farmer's wife or daughter).Wood wanted to give a description of the traditional roles of men and women as the man is holding a pitchfork (干草叉) symbolizing hard labor. Each element was painted separately;the models sat separately and never stood in front of the house. The Gothic style of the house inspired the painting's title.
American Gothic remains one of the most famous paintings in the history of American art.The painting has become part of American popular culture. Some believe that Wood used it to satirize(讽刺) the narrow-mindedness that has been said to characterize Midwestern culture. The painting may also be read as a praise of the moral virtue or rural America or even as a mixture of praise and satire.American Gothic is one of the few images to reach the status of cultural symbol, along with Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.

203205. (2016•西安中学•二模) At 2 pm on 5 December 1945,five US bombers took off from Fort Lauderlale in the USA for a training flight in perfect weather.Shortly afterwards, the pilots radioed that their flight instruments were all malfunctioning. Two hours after take-off,all contact with the planes was lost.A reconnaissance plane was immediately sent off to search for the missing planes.Within 20 minutes, radio contact with it had also been lost.No trace of any of the planes was ever found. In all,six planes and 27 men had disappeared into the air.

203073. (2017•铁一中学•三模) Good news for giant panda lovers:The cute and cuddly creature has just been brought back from the brink of extinction.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) downgraded the species from"endangered"to"vulnerable"as the union released its updated Red List on Sept 4 at Hawaii.
德优题库
The downgrade came after IUCN data suggested that there were 1,864 giant pandas in the wild in China in 2014-their population has grown by 17 percent in the decade leading up to 2014.
Chinese conservation efforts, including forest protection and reforestation, are considered to be the driving force behind the animal's resurgence.
"It's all about restoring the habitats,"Craig Hilton-Taylor,head of the IUCN Red List, told the BBC.
The number of panda reserves in China has also jumped to 67,from 13 in 1992.Nearly two-thirds of all wild pandas live in these reserves, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
"Just by restoring the panda's habitat, that's given them back their space and made food available to them,"Hilton-Taylor said.
A loss of habitats,on the contrary, was what caused the number of pandas to drop to just over 1,200 in the 1980s,Hilton-Taylor added.
Apart from giant pandas, the Tibetan Antelope has also moved from"endangered"to"near threatened".According to a statement from IUCN,the animal's numbers dwindled severely-dropping from around 1 million to an estimated 65,000-72,500 in the 1980s and early 1990s-due to commercial poaching.Rigorous(严格的) protection has since been enforced to protect the beasts and the population is now likely to be between 100,000 and 150,000.
Despite the improved statuses, wild animals like the giant panda and the Tibetan Antelope still face great challenges. The IUCN warned, for example, that ongoing threats from climate change could eliminate more than 35 percent of the panda's bamboo habitat in the next 80 years, which would reverse the species recent gains.

203072. (2017•铁一中学•三模) You may have heard of the book Moby Dick(《白鲸记》),written by the American author Herman Melville. You may also know that Moby Dick is considered one of the greatest novels ever written. However,it might surprise you to find out Herman Melville was not always a highly regarded author.
Melville's first two novels,Typee and Omoo, were widely read and financially successfully. They were both exciting tales of adventures at sea and experiences with people in foreign lands.Melville became quite famous. However, upon the publication of his third book,Mardi,Melville's popularity began to weaken. He was no longer interested in telling tales of pure adventure, and his writing took on a style that alienated(使疏远) the general reading public of his time.
Melville published Moby Dick in October of 1851.it was an original novel, combining aspects of sociology and philosophy, which confused readers by its complex symbolism. The book sold poorly.
Melville's next book,Pierre, was almost completely disregarded by the public.Debt frustration and ill health finally forced Melville to take a low-paying job as a customs inspector.Eventually,Melville abandoned prose(散文) and began to write poetry.
The Civil War is the main subject of Melville's poetry. He and his brother made a trip to the front line, and he published a book of poems,Battle-Pieces and Aspects of War,based on this experience.
Melville died in 1891 at the age of 72.at this point, his work had been completely forgotten by the public. His talent was to go unrecognized for the next thirty years. Then,in 1920s,his reputation began to improve as critics and readers rediscovered his work.Today Moby Dick is one of the best-known novels ever penned by an American author.

Huang Zifang,a psychologist specializing in children's growth issues, said schoolould be careful about taking bullying incidents as mere pranks(恶作剧).
"Instead, they should work to find out the root cause of the incident in a timely manner, guide the children involved to face and handle the incident in a correct way and teach them to behave properly to avoid-similar situations," Huang said.
She made the comments after a mother in Beijing posted a description online on Thursday of how her 10-year-old son was bullied at Zhongguancun No 2 Primary School,a top school in Haidian district.

Huang, the psychologist, said that schools and parents must pay more attention to the ethical(道德的)development and mental health of children, rather than just looking at their academic performance.

202768. (2020•西安中学•二模) Nobel prize-winners,legendary authors, and famous scientists - you might think all these people were born to be creative. However, that's not always the case.
While well-known figures like Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein did their most significant work in their youth, famous American poet Robert Frost and English-born natural scientist Charles Darwin were known as "late bloomers" - people whose talents were not noticeable until later in life.
This idea of "peaking" at different times inspired new research from the United States. "Many people believe that creativity is exclusively associated with youth, but it really depends on what kind of creativity you're talking about," said Bruce Weinburg,a professor of economics at the University of Chicago and co-author of the study.
According to the study, published earlier this month in the journal De Economist, there are two types of people:conceptual and experimental thinkers.
To reach this conclusion, researchers took the 31 previous winners of the Nobel Prize in economics and arranged them according to when they did their most significant work,to identify their creative peaks.
Some peaked from ages 25-29.Classified as conceptual thinkers, these people think outside of the box, coming up with new ideas before they become used to the conventional way of doing things.
The second creative peak came with economists in their 50s.These are experimental thinkers who have been in their fields for a long time. This allows them to learn from errors and experiment with different processes, before eventually finding new solutions.
"Whether you hit your creative peak early or late in your career depends on whether you have a conceptual or experimental approach," said Weinburg. He added that their study isn't limited to economics, saying it can apply to other creative disciplines (知识领域).So if you're struggling to come up with new ideas, don't panic.Your creative peak may be yet to arrive.

(1)What did the study from the US find?
A.Young people are not necessarily more creative than old people.
B.Most people take a conceptual approach when thinking.
C.One's creative peak is related to their job type.
D.Conceptual and experimental thinkers hit their peaks at different times.
(2)What does the underlined word "conventional" mean in context?
A.Easy.
B.Unusual.
C.Traditional.
D.Appropriate.
(3)What do we know about experimental thinkers?
A.Their talents usually bloom in their 20s.
B.They are good at doing experiments.
C.They work out new methods based on experience.
D.They are more successful than conceptual thinkers.
(4)What would Weinberg probably agree with?
A.It's difficult to find one's talent in later years.
B.More research needs to be done about creative peaks.
C.Conceptual thinkers could be more successful in the art field.
D.Experimental thinkers from other fields may be most successful in their 50s.

203918. (2024•鄠邑区•高三上期末)      When trash sculptor Stephanie Hongo meets friends for drinks or dinner,it's not unusual for one of them to hand her shopping bags full of lids, empty soap bottles, and even a Barbie leg or two.By now, she's used to neighbors, friends and even strangers giving her their recyclable rejects.
But Hongo doesn't need any more garbage. She has a large collection of her own at home. "You don't need to be a trash picker to do this," she says. "Trash is everywhere." And for Hongo, where there is trash, there is art.Since 2017,Hongo has crafted complex sea creatures,realistic-looking jungle animals and other creatures out of everything from plastic forks to plastic tubing as well as a hair dryer,a purse,a tooth brush, and even a hair straightener.
Starting with her first piece—a blue deer named Yandoo that she fashioned out of odds and ends laying around her flat, which she screwed together and spray painted in a makeshift basement art studio—she's gone on to create more than 160 trash sculptures.

203958. (2024•鄠邑二中•高二下期末)     In 2021,a wildfire bloomed in the Sonoran Desert in southwestern Arizona.By June 7,winds had blown the wildfire east-northeast into the Pinal Mountains,in the Tonto's southern reaches. The fire rose quickly, climbing over cliffs (悬崖) and sweeping across vast jungles. When the fire hit the tops of mountains with pine forests,it consumed them as well.
The Telegraph Fire,as it's now called, grew very intense, creating its own wind as its heat rose, pulling air in from the edges. On the fifth day,the fire neared the city of Globe.By then,it had already destroyed a large area of Globe, making it one of the most powerful wildfires in Arizona's history, spanning approximately 700 square kilometers of land. But the fire would not swallow Globe.Instead,on a ridge, the Telegraph Fire encountered a protective bulwark, remains of a previous great fire.
According to ecologist Kit O'Connor, the Telegraph Fire shifted from a powerful fire, which was killing roughly 60% to 70% of the trees it encountered,to a slow-moving ground fire that only killed about 1% of the trees it came across. "Ultimately, the fire stopped approximately a kilometer away from a residential area on the outskirts of Globe," said Lata,a wildfire management expert. She notes that without the Pinal Fire, the Telegraph Fire would have likely spread into the town and that they would have no means to prevent it.
The decision to allow the Pinal Fire to burn was guided by a new approach to wildfire management called potential operational delineations (PODs).PODs categorize the landscape into zones where fires can potentially be contained. These zones are determined before the fire season begins, using a combination of AI and local expertise.A PODs network can assist land managers in identifying opportunities to exploit wildfires that light under manageable conditions. The goal is that,if subsequent fires break out under extreme conditions, there will be fewer bushes available to feed their great power.

(1)What does paragraph 1 mainly describe about the wildfire?
A.Its extension.
B.Its origin.
C.Its duration.
D.Its management.
(2)What does the underlined word "bulwark" in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.A water source.
B.A defensive wall.
C.A type of vegetation.
D.A fire-fighting technique.
(3)What is Lata's attitude to the Pinal Fire?
A.Critical.
B.Indifferent.
C.Cautious.
D.Supportive.
(4)What is the main purpose of PODs in wildfire management?
A.To predict wildfire occurrences.
B.To reduce fuel for future wildfires.
C.To help land managers put out wildfires.
D.To create landscapes against potential wildfires.
