214949. (2017•西安中学•高二下期中) Every day, hundreds of thousands of us visit coffee shops. While we drink our coffee,we may connect our smartphone to the shop's Wi-Fi network, and keep in touch with friends via services such as Facebook.
As well as socializing,we may use the time and free access to a wireless connection to get on top of our finances.Transferring money from your account to others'accounts is nothing more than a few taps on your screen.
But what coffee drinkers do not realize is that lurking(潜伏) among their fellow coffee-lovers are bank robbers.
Unknown to you, this modern form of bank robber is silently collecting all your private data. The only sign of his thievery is perhaps a little smile as your bank log-in details appear on his screen.
You'll only realize when you later go to a cash machine to withdraw some money, and discover that every penny in your account has been cleared out.
The common method for thieves is to use your smartphone's Wi-Fi connection. They rely on the fact that most of us are not careful about the security of networks we connect to.
For example, when you are in a coffee shop, your smartphone will present you with a list of available Wi-Fi networks that you can use to connect your phone to the Internet. Most of these networks are run by legitimate(合法的)companies, but sometimes they are actually created by a thief sitting nearby with little more than a laptop.
These networks are often given names, such as"Free Public Wi-Fi",which deceive smartphone users into logging in.On the surface, everything seems normal, and you will be able to connect just as you are with a legitimate Wi-Fi service.
However, because you have connected to a network controlled by a thief,he can monitor (监视) everything you do,enabling him to collect passwords and log-in details about your bank account.

215150. (2016•西北大附中•高二下期中) Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it.They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.
(31)        Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way.Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it.This is called repressing anger.
For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person's health than expressing it.They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙).They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure,or sugar into the blood,etc.(32)
Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
(33)        They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is,they say,"(34)        Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably."
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry.(35)

A.In general the person feels excited and ready to act.
B.They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.
C.Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.
D.Anger may cause you a cancer.
E.Do not express your anger while angry.

G.Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.

214384. (2019•师大附中•高二上期中) Moving to a new city and state was difficult for me,especially in winter.Little did I know that a Colorado snowstorm would greet me after I had been in my new home for only a week.

205256. (2021•阎良区•高一下期末) Plenty of science fiction (sci-fi) movies over the decades have shown us different versions of Mars. The truth about the Martian surface might be exciting because it's real. And with NASA's Mars 2020 mission set to launch this summer,we're facing more discovery.
So far, thanks to a decade of research enabled by NASA's Curiosity rover,we've learned that lakes, rivers streams and likely oceans used to appear on Mars. While its water disappeared over three billion years ago,it tells us that Mars used to be habitable. This knowledge confuses us because so far,we've seen no clear evidence of life there, not even a virus. But if Mars was once habitable, wouldn't it have life?NASA is now prepared to take the next step to answer this question with the launch of another rover (探测 器),Perseverance.Every time a rover goes to Mars,it just stays there, with no way to fly back home.So we have never brought rock or soil samples back from Mars.
Perseverance rover will change this. Its primary and unique purpose is to collect samples that a future spacecraft can return to Earth. These samples will tell us more about the geologic history of Mars than anything we've learned, which is already a lot.Since 2012,the Curiosity rover has traveled more than a dozen miles, making observations along the way with its 10 instruments.
Thanks to data from the Curiosity rovers Sample Analysis at Mars instrument,we know that Mars does indeed have organic materials. That's more complex than we expected to find on the surface of Mars. And that's exactly why we want to gather the most interesting samples and bring them back to Earth. We expect to find out much more about Mars once we get samples back from the Mars 2020 mission.

(1)What is the purpose of Mars 2020 Mission?
A.To study the life on Mars.

D.Convenient to travel.
(3)What was the problem with Mars exploration before Perseverance?
A.The rovers could not reach Mars.
B.Observations were hard to make.
C.Samples on Mars couldn't be brought back.
D.Study instruments got lost in the space station.
(4)Which of the following can be the best title of the text?

213630. (2023•蓝田县•高二下期中) I studied English and US literature and drama at university, and like many arts graduates I had highfalutin (夸张的) ideas that I wanted to be a writer or perhaps a rock and roll star when I grew up.When I graduated I did actually spend a couple of years in LA as a session musician.I spent some time managing Regent's Park Theatre which I loved but after the summer the theatre shut.
Then in 1989 a small thing happened that changed my life.I damaged my car and needed a few hundred pounds to fix it.I suddenly realized I had to start earning some money.I'd never thought of teaching but I got some advice to go to Gabbitas,Truman and Thring, which for donkey's years was the teaching agency for independent schools.I wasn't a trained teacher so I couldn't even think of teaching at a state school.
I borrowed an ill-fitting suit off my father and I felt like a character in a PG Wodehouse film pretending to be someone else. They asked me what I was interested in for about 20 minutes and unbelievably I got a six week job as assistant housemaster at Reeds School in Surrey.Looking back,it's amazing that they let me do it.
But after six weeks I realized teaching was something I really wanted to do.I felt like I was learning for the first time in a long time.People go into teaching for all sorts of reasons from social reasons to their own background, but I was drawn in because it seemed such a creative option.
I got my QTS (Qualified teacher status) working in schools. It's funny that teacher training has come full circle now with a move towards in-school training. But I have a suspicion that a good teacher is a good teacher, whatever the training.I got my first full time post at Mill Hill in North London and worked there for two and a half years teaching English and drama.
The biggest lesson I learned from my colleagues in the early days of my teaching career was that there's no substitute for strict and high expectations.Pupils can be restricted by teachers' expectations of them.I go in expecting professional standards - that's the point I try and get my pupils to.The challenge for a drama teacher is to get kids that find going on stage really frightening to the point that they can do it.The only way to do it is by hard work and encouragement, long, long hours of rehearsal (排练) and a clear idea of what you can achieve.
Outside the curriculum I put on one or two shows a term.In total we've got nine productions a term;many of them are exam pieces. The A-level course is largely practical and we don't do drama GCSE at Bedales. It's a very interesting route, more challenging and exciting and includes outdoor work.We do know pretty much all our pupils will do A-levels but we have a very broad range of ability at Bedales,10% may go to Oxford and Cambridge but we also have kids who don't want to go to university,it's a broad church.
I've been working at Bedales for just over two years.I've worked in very academic schools in London and traditional country schools, but find being here a unique environment.Teachers here feel valued and empowered and that's contagious (传染的).We have a constant professional dialogue with ourselves and our colleagues,so we are able to move together.
To stay as a teacher you have to stay alive, hungry for new ideas. This keeps me motivated.Who is to say how long I can teach for though,it depends on how the energy levels keep up.
I think it would be very unwise to think you can teach in an independent school now without being qualified.I was one of the last old dinosaurs to walk across that plain.

(1)What made the writer start to look for a job as a teacher?
A.What he had studied at university.
B.The influence of other arts graduates.
C.His failure as a session musician.
D.The need for money to fix his car.
(2)The writer thinks it's surprised to be hired because he
A.behaved common at university
B.didn't get a teacher's qualification
C.had little experience related to the job
D.came across some unbelievable interviewers
(3)According to the passage, the challenge for a drama teacher is to
A.provide his students with good drama
B.establish high and strict professional standards
C.find ways to deal well with other colleagues
D.help his students overcome the fear on stage
(4)What is the message conveyed in the passage?
A.One can find his position in life in his own way.
B.Opportunity seldom knocks twice.
C.Motivation is more important than qualifications.
D.Teaching others teaches yourself.

My boss appeared. "You probably know we're cutting back," he said. "Administration wants us to offer outplacement classes to help those employees find other jobs, showing them how to act in an interview, for example." "Fine," I answered unwillingly, not knowing what else to say.
I decided to go home early that day.In the hall,I met the lady who brought us cookies every Friday. She was a little woman with gray hair.Only her head and the top of her green apron were visible over the cart (小车) loaded with cleaning supplies. At least she had a job!

I decided to do something for her.I wrote to a newspaper expressing how I felt about the unselfishness of the Cookie Lady who needed a job.A few days later,my article appeared in the newspaper and the Cookie Lady was allowed to stay in her position. On the same day,I received a letter, which seemed so unlikely that I read it twice. 215029. (2017•长安区一中•高二下期中) "Sorry, but I don't agree with you…"This is usually followed by unbearable silence and angry tears.I've always found it difficult to disagree with someone because I don't want to lose a friend.I've found it even harder to accept it when someone disagrees with me,because my ego (自尊心) is hurt.
Before the other person gets a chance to explain why she disagrees with me,my usual response would be,"If you aren't able to see my point of view, then what you think isn't worth my time or consideration, either."But now I've come to realize that when a friend disagrees with me,sometimee is simply saying,"I don't agree with the way things are done."She still respects me as a person, and is only pointing out a better way to look at a matter. However, there may be times when my friend disagrees with me because I'm against the truth. That's when I need to listen to what she says.
I've learned that for me one way to help my friend is to be open and honest with the other to voice my thoughts and listen to the other carefully. While we can't control how a person will respond to our views,we must learn to disagree with our friends in love.We will never feel that we are better than the other person. And that will help us to be less emotional, and more objective in the way we express our opinions. In the same way,we can also stay open to feedback (反馈) from others, knowing that our friends may be correcting us in love.
Good friendships build each other up,sometimes through disagreements and honest opinions.Though I don't like being disagreed with,I'm starting to see the value of such disagreements.

C.break up with the friend
D.explain things calmly
(3)The author will listen to a friend when
A.he does things in the wrong way
B.he doesn't tell the truth
C.he is respected by the friend D.he is against the truth
(4)What does the author mainly talk about in the text?
A.How to keep friendship.
B.How to avoid hurting a friend.
C.How to deal with disagreements.
D.How to express disagreements.

205153. (2022•西安八十九中•高一下期末) Richard Turere walks through his family's farm just outside Nairobi National Park in Kenya.Goats, cows, and sheep eat grass peacefully on the farm while in the park nearby, lions wander leisurcly, living in peace with the livestock (家畜). An extraordinary picture! How do livestock manage to live safely near these huge lions? It' s all due to this young man's brilliant invention-Lion Lights.
Livestock is his family' s entire livelihood--which is why whenever lions attacked their goats, sheep,or cattle,it was disastrous. There seemed to be no good solution to the problem until Richard began working on it.After a lion killed his family's only bull,Richard started experimenting with ways to scare off the lions. His first two attempts--fire and then a scarecrow--were unsuccessful. But one night when he was walking around with a flashlight,he noticed that lions stayed away. That's when he realized:these big cats were afraid of moving lights!
Then Richard--who'd taken apart and studied machines since he was very small—began experimenting.Despite his lack of any formal training in electrical engineering,he fitted a system of flashing LED lights on poles around the farm. The flashing lights, which he made from vehicle indicator flashers, car batteries, and a solar panel, tricked the lions into thinking the grounds were guarded, keeping the lions away.
The word got out about the brilliant "lion-lights boy".Soon Richard was fixing the Lion Lights system for neighbors.Later, his invention won him a scholarship to Kenya's well-known Brookhouse International School. And when Richard was 13,he was invited to California to speak about his invention at a TED conference. These days,Richard still lives on his family's farm, and fixes the Lion Lights system for people all over Kenya, which functions efficiently. He dreams of becoming an airplane engineer and pilot, but he also works to arouse people's awareness about the need to support young Kenyan inventors like himself.

212665. (2025•临潼区•高二下期中)     During the last few weeks,I spent numerous hot nights standing beside or on my bed, trying to catch mosquitoes in my room. After my friend kept hearing about my nightly adventures,he showed up with a gift one morning:a mosquito net.It was huge, white and held the promise of a good night's sleep.
I asked my father for instructions to hang it up,which he emailed in great detail—thinking I'd be able to turn the screw on which to hang the net into the ceiling. That didn't quite work out.
Luckily,a plumber(水电工) happened to come to my house that day. After examining the net and my ceiling,he assessed it wasn't going to happen by hand. "You' ll need an electric drill." Then I showed him how I could borrow a drill on an app that lets us borrow things we need from your neighbors and received three responses from people living nearby within minutes, saying they' d happily lend out theirs. One of them turned out to be a friend whose house is only 200 meters away, and the device could be picked up at his place in the evening.
Back at home,I started drilling but seemed to be unable to get through the ceiling. My dad got on speakerphone and listened to what it sounded like. After three minutes,he told me to stop.I might be hitting iron and the last thing I wanted to do was to mess up the drill."We' ll do it after I come back next week," he said. "Just be patient."
Just then I heard someone parking their car outside my house.I walked up and asked for help.To my surprise, they agreed immediately. While his girlfriend and I looked at the man in admiration,he got through the ceiling within 20 seconds. The mosquito net was finally up within a minute.

205061. (2022•蓝田县•高一下期末) Hamburgers,French fries, potato chips, popcorn, and pizza. There is no denying these foods are tasty. But often,it's the added salt that makes them so appealing. One result:U.S.kids are eating too much salty fare.
Table salt is about 40% sodium(钠).Our bodies need some sodium to work properly. But too much of it is not healthy.
A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control(CDC)looked at the eating habits of 2,142 children between the ages of 6 and 18.It found that their average sodium intake was 3,256 milligrams per day. That equals nearly 1.5 teaspoons each day, which is 50% more than current guidelines recommend.
Zerleen Quader is the study's lead author. "Eating too much sodium now can set kids up for health problems later," she said.
Much of the sodium that kids eat comes from processed foods. But potato chips and other salty snacks aren't the only culprits. There are other sodium sources - like bread and cold cuts - adding to the salt overload.
All this added salt can raise blood pressure and, with it,the risk of a heart attack and other health problems.Today,1 in 9 children has raised blood pressure. There's good news though.Lowering salt intake can lower blood pressure.
That,of course,is easier said than done. The more salty foods you eat,the more you develop a taste for them. The key to changing your diet is to start small. "Small changes in sodium in foods are not usually noticed," Quader says.Eventually, she adds, the effort will reset a kid's taste buds(味蕾)so the salt desires stop.
Need a little inspiration?Dietitian Bridget Murphy advises focusing on the immediate effects of a diet that is high in sodium.High blood pressure can make it difficult to be active. "Do you want to be able to think clearly and perform well in school?" she asks. "If you're an athlete,do you want to run faster?" If you answered yes to these questions, then it's time to shake the salt habit.

(1)What did the recent CDC study find?
A.The present advised salt intake is too high.
B.Teenagers have good dietary habits.
C.American kids have too much salt.
D.Proper sodium intake benefits human health.
(2)Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word "culprits" in Paragraph 5?
A.Criminals.
B.Results.
C.Types.
D.Surprises.
(3)What is Quader's advice for kids?
A.Eat salt-free foods.
B.Have a low-sodium diet.
C.Keep away from junk food.
D.Take enough exercise regularly.
(4)According to Murphy,a salty diet will probably        .
A.help you have a quick mind
B.increase your running speed
C.make you relatively inactive
D.keep you hungry but spirited

Instead, after graduation,he spent four decades at WGBH in Boston, one of the public broadcasting stations. He retired in 2005 at the age of 65 without any particular post-career goal in mind. After several aimless weeks,he decided to drive his camper to visit family in Jackson Hole,Wyoming.

From his internship,he moved up to ranger, educating park visitors, ensuring safe encounters between guests and animals, and responding to medical emergencies. He values his stewardship (管理工作) of what he describes as one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and appreciates the moments when he treats a visitor to an up-close look at one of the park's wolves or bears through his telescope.
