204106. (2023•西安中学•高二上期末) I walked along the sidewalk that borders the west side of Central Park this morning, wondering at itape:Hexagonal(六边形的) paving stones underneath my feet were bordered by brickwork, with a tidy stone wall running alongside.Just past the wall lay the park itself, where delicate branches of leafless trees reached to the blue sky,and sparrows emerged from trees.
The contrast between the straight-lined,orderly,man-made sidewalk and the complex diversity of nature just beyond its border made me think about the differences between natural creation and man's creation.
The world holds many examples of circles:the moon, grapes, drops of water and the center of flowers.Triangles(三角形) are readily evident, too. There are kitty cat noses and ears, mountain peaks and river deltas.
But what about the most common shape in the man-made world, the rectangle(矩形)?I searched my brain for natural equals.Though I thought and thought,I came up with only two:teeth and salt crystals. That surprised me.Do we prefer rectangles simply because it's easier to plan and build with blocks and straight lines?Or does it have something to do with the idea that humans tend to assume life is supposed to be linear?I don't know.
There are bent lines everywhere. As I look at the beauty of,a tree in winter, with its branches reaching skyward in a seemingly untidy but obviously planned pattern,I can apprehend something of what that means.
Our world isn't always tidy and predictable in the way that I want it to be.There are twists and turns in my life that I can't foresee or predict. That doesn't mean branching off in unexpected directions is bad or wrong. It means that when I find myself in each new place,I need to continue growing and reaching upward.

(3)Which can explain the underlined word "apprehend" in paragraph 5?
A.create.
B.imagine.
C.understand.
D.arrange.
(4)What may the author agree with?
A.People should live in a complex world.
B.Triangles are the most common in nature.

[解析]
1)细节理解题。由文章第一段I walked along the sidewalk that borders the west side of Central Park this morningwondering at its shapeHexagonal(六边形的) paving stones underneath my feet were bordered by brickworkwith a tidy stone wall running alongside.(今天早上我沿着人行横道的边界走在中央公园的西侧,惊讶于它们的形状:我的脚下是六边形的铺路石以砖墙为边界,旁边是一堵整洁的石墙。)可知,我在散步时看见铺路石的形状很惊讶。所以答案为B项。
2)观点态度题。由文章第二段The contrast between the straightlinedorderlymanmade sidewalk and the complex diversity of nature just beyond its border made me think about the differences between natural creation and man's creation.(笔直有序的,人造的人行横道与边界外复杂多样的自然之间的对比,让我思考自然创造与人类创造之间的差异。)可知,形状是客观存在于自然界和人造物体中,推断出作者寻找形状差异时思考的态度也是客观的。Anegative.否定的;Bcautious.小心谨慎的;Cunconcerned.不担心的;Dobjective.客观的。所以答案为D项。
3)词义猜测题。由文章第五段There are bent lines everywhere. As I look at the beauty ofa tree in winterwith its branches reaching skyward in a seemingly untidy but obviously planned patternI can apprehend something of what that means.(到处都是弯曲的线条。当我看到冬天一棵树的美丽时,它的树枝伸向天空,看似凌乱,但显然是有计划的图案,我能_____这意味着什么。)以及第六段Our world isn't always tidy and predictable in the way that I want it to be.There are twists and turns in my life that I can't foresee or predict. That doesn't mean branching off in unexpected directions is bad or wrong. It means that when I find myself in each new placeI need to continue growing and reaching upward.(我们的世界并不总是像我希望的那样整洁和可预测。
That doesn't mean branching off in unexpected directions is bad or wrong. It means that when I find myself in each new placeI need to continue growing and reaching upward. 这并不意味着向意想不到的方向发展是坏的或错误的,这意味着当我发现自己在一个新的地方,我需要继续成长和向上。)可知作者赞同的观点就是面对未知时,我们应该不断前进。所以答案为D项。

(2022•周至四中•高二下二月) From self-driving cars to care-bots(care+robots)for elderly people, rapid development in technology has long represented a possible threat to many jobs normally performed by people. But experts now believe that almost 50 percent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to change businesses.
"The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a revolution will necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces," said Peter Andrew,Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific.
A growing number of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the ability to use artificial intelligence.
The report is based on interviews with 200 experts, business leaders and young people from Asia Pacific,Europe and North America. It shows that in the US technology already destroys more jobs than it creates.

A 2014 report by Pew Research found 52 percent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few years. The optimists pictured "a future in which robots do not take the place of more jobs than they create," according to Aaron Smith, the report's co-author.
"Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created.Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change," Microsoft's Jonathan Grudin told researchers.

   The medications you're taking
Most medications won't disqualify you from being able to donate blood.
(1)       .If you're taking an antibiotic for an infection, you may be asked to wait until you're healthy again;if you're taking aspirin and donating platelets, you must wait two full days after taking aspirin or any medication containing aspirin before donating.
You've tested positive for hepatitis or HIV
(2)       ,you cannot donate if you've tested positive for either condition.Because some types of hepatitis may not be treatable and can lead to fatal health problems, such as liver failure and liver cancer,it is too risky to donate blood if you have these diseases.

If you weigh less than 110 pounds, you're not eligible to donate blood.Underweight individuals tend to have low blood volumes and therefore may not tolerate the removal of the required volume of blood.
Your iron levels are too low or too high
Having low iron - less than 12.5 g/dL for women and 13.0 g/dL for men - will disqualify you from donating. For this reason, frequent donors, especially women, are encouraged to take iron supplements and eat iron-rich foods to keep their levels in the normal range.
(4)
You recently got a piercing or electrolysis
(5)       ,if you've recently gotten an ear or body piercing or electrolysis with a reusable gun or reusable instrument. Before you get a piercing or electrolysis,he recommends doing your research on whether the place employs single-use equipment.

205726. (2018•西安中学•高二上期末) Tempted by a chocolate bar?Maybe indulging (沉迷于) every so often is not a bad thing especially if it's dark chocolate.
According to a Swedish study in the journal of the American College of Cardiology that looked at more than 33,000 women, the more chocolate the women said they ate,the lower their risk of stroke.
The results add to a growing body of evidence linking cocoa consumption to heart health, but they aren't a free pass to overeat chocolate.
"Given the observational design of the study, findings of this study cannot prove that it's chocolate that lowers the risk of stroke, said Susanna Larsson from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm,in an email to Reuters Health.
While she believes chocolate has health benefits, she also warned that eating too much of it could be having the opposite of the desired effect.
"Chocolate should be consumed within reasonable limits as it is high in calories, fat and sugar. As dark chocolate contains more cocoa and less sugar than milk chocolate, consumption of dark chocolate would be more beneficial."
Larsson and her colleagues tapped into data from a mammography study that included self-reports of how much chocolate women ate in 1997.The women ranged in age from 49 to 83 years.
Over the next decade, there were 1,549 strokes among the group. The more chocolate women ate,the lower their risk.
Among those with the highest weekly chocolate intake, more than 45 grams, there were 2.5 strokes per 1,000 women per year. That figure was 7.8 per 1,000 among women who ate the least, less than 8.9 grams a week.
Scientists speculate (推测) that substances known as flavonoids may be responsible for chocolate's apparent impact on health.
According to Larsson, flavonoids have been shown to cut high blood pressure,a risk factor for strokes, and improve other factors linked to heart health.Whether that theoretical benefit translates to real-life benefits remains to be proven by strict studies, however.
Nearly 800,000 people in the United States suffer a stroke every year, with about a sixth of them dying of it and many more left disabled.
For those at high risk, doctors recommend blood pressure medicine, quitting smoking, exercising more and eating a healthier diet, but so far, chocolate isn't on the list.

214515. (2020•西安一中•高一下期中) I didn't know how to say no,and was afraid to tell people what I wanted.Instead,I got myself tangled (纠结的) in a web of obligations, anxiety, and white lies.
The worst thing was that I didn't even realize what I was doing.I thought I knew how to say "no"-but couldn't remember the last time I had.Like a lot of people,I just wanted to be accepted,appreciated,loved-and that the only way to get those things was to put everyone else's needs before my own.
I never seemed to have time for things I really wanted to do.I'd like to learn Spanish, write more fiction, and travel. These aren't huge, unrealistic goals. And yet,my people-pleasing ways dramatically cut into my free time to pursue these desires.
But recently,I decided I'd had enough. As an experiment,I began standing up for myself, even at the risk of alienating (使疏远) myself from everyone and having my entire life come crashing down around me.Several days ago,a good friend asked me to go for coffee at 5 p.m.I was planning to hit the gym and then binge-watch Mad Men for the millionth time.I said, "Sorry,I've got things I want to do tonight." She said, "That's fine.Maybe another time." It was all so painfully simple that I wanted to cry.
Saying "no" is so much easier. If someone asks me to do something I have zero interest in,I'm polite but honest. "I'm sorry,I don't think that's really for me." The words slip out my mouth faster than some other lame excuses.
Learning how to say "no" has added several extra hours to my days, days to my weeks, and what feels like months to my years.I no longer have to back-burner my plans to help friends with their job search,or set aside a weekend to read a book draft by someone I barely know.Saying "no" has set me free.

(1)Why was the author afraid of saying "no"?
A.She didn't want to tell lies.
B.She wanted to make more friends.
C.She wanted to please every one.
D.She was always willing to help others.
(2)What was the bad point of being afraid of saying "no"?
A.She alienated many friends.
B.She was kept busy all day long.
C.She felt depressed now and then.
D.She had no time for her own hobbies.
(3)What was her friend's reaction when she said "no" to her?
A.Natural.
B.Painful.
C.Angry.
D.Disappointed.
(4)How did the author feel after she had learnt to say "no"?
A.Lonely.
B.Relaxed.

214214. (2022•鄠邑区•高二下期中) Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport's rules require that a race walker's knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It's this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg,an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem,Mass.
Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says,According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories(卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour.
However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does,Dr.Norberg says.According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner's knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport's strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips,so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says.It takes some practice.

(1)Why are race walkers conditioned athletes?
A.They must run long distances.
B.They are qualified for the marathon.
C.They have to follow special rules.
D.They are good at swinging their legs.
(2)What advantage does race walking have over running?
A.It's more popular at the Olympics.
B.It's less challenging physically.
C.It's more effective in body building.
D.It's less likely to cause knee injuries.
(3)What is Dr.Norberg's suggestion for someone trying race walking?
A.Getting experts' opinions.
B.Having a medical checkup.
C.Hiring an experienced coach.
D.Doing regular exercises.
(4)Which word best describes the author's attitude to race walking?
A.Skeptical.
B.Objective.
C.Tolerant.
D.Conservative.

217962. (2023•西安中学•高三上四月) Lately,I've been thinking about my school life in the 1990s,when in class we were encouraged to express ourselves through creative writing, public speaking or perhaps taking part in some form of drama. And as we shared our creativity we were improving our communication skills .The emphasis here was how best to convey our thoughts as clearly as possible.Yet it seemed that all spoken word exercises were being taught only from the speaker's point of view, with little or no time spent teaching the art of listening.
And that was a missed opportunity because young children are remarkable listeners. They take in words, ideas and speech patterns, quite often without our awareness.Yet somewhere along the way,we teach them to stop listening.Perhaps they would benefit from lessons in selective silence, concentration, while focusing on knowing how to process all incoming information.Sadly,to the best of my knowledge,no such programs are offered.
We seem to spend less time actually listening to one another. One reason might be the fact that we have become a much more visual society as a result of exposure to television, the Internet and all manner of hand-held wireless devices. We tend to be more self-absorbed and primarily focused on hearing ourselves talk rather than listening to others.
I attended a small family gathering a few years ago and almost everyone, except my 86-year-old aunt, was constantly texting or checking email on their iPhone. It made me wonder why we had bothered to get together in the first place as we were paying so little attention to one another. We could just as easily have had an online get-together.
Listening is indeed a rare and special talent, and one that takes a lot of practice. But once you have gotten comfortable with the technique, you might find your next face-to-face talk a whole lot more meaningful.Simply listening for nuances(细微差别) in conversation will provide so much more context and substance for the words you are hearing.Remember,in order to be interesting, you must first be interested. And in conversation, you are supposed to be listening, not waiting to talk.

(1)What is the author's attitude toward the class in the 1990s?
A.Objective.
B.Tolerant.
C.Favorable.
D.Prejudiced.
(2)What might be a reason that makes us bad listeners according to the author?
A.We have less time to communicate.

217897. (2024•华清中学•高二上一月) With rounds of pioneering space flights that could set the stage for future space tourism,it is worth looking at what might be involved for the human exploration of Mars, though it's likely decades away.Technological challenges aside,as we continue to expand our exploration of Mars, there is a question:What might be the lessons of past voyages of discovery that we should think about?
Human exploration has led to many extraordinary new discoveries, but it has also led to the exploitation(开发) of resources. Not long after early European settlers arrived at America, they declared their independence and created the constitution by which modern American society functions. However, this did not prevent the settlers from referring to native people as savages and taking away their rights to liberty, happiness, and even survival.Native Americans were quickly killed by wars and new diseases as the new settlers expanded their land. The natural environment, with which they had established a harmonious relationship, was similarly destroyed by the settlement.Mars certainly has an impossible environment for human life, but on Mars, humans will be the invasive(侵略的)species. Will our landing on Mars break the ecosystem on Mars?It is possible that Mars has ideal minerals for future development. But apart from technology challenges, will the mining have a disastrous environment impact on this red neighbour as it has already had on Earth?
The achievements of space exploration are certainly to be applauded. The contributions of the related researches on chemistry, medicine and many others are potentially limitless. However,as we look to exploring worlds beyond our own,we need to begin now to look at history to consider how best to engage with different life forms, cultures and environments. We may be capable of writing a law,but we first need to clear our potential invasive impact on another planet that may be completely defenseless.

(1)What does the underlined word "this" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Modern American society.
B.The creation of constitution.
C.The settlement of Europeans.
D.The exploitation of resources.
(2)What's the author's concern about the exploration of Mars?
A.Humans cannot survive on Mars.
B.Humans may bring new diseases to Mars.
C.The exploration may destroy Mars' ecosystem.
D.Technology challenges will make mining on Mars hard.
(3)What's the author's suggestion for future space exploring?
A.Making relevant laws properly.
B.Conducting more scientific researches.
C.Predicting its impacts on other planets.
D.Learning from past exploration experiences.
(4)Which column is this text most probably taken from?
A.Opinion.
B.History.
C.Technology.
D.Environment.

217803. (2024•西安一中•高一上一月)  Current Culture:Is Common Culture Alive? The digitizing(数字化) and globalizing world is changing the working of culture. As some see it,cities and nations are losing their common culture and their general spirit:people can no longer depend on those around them valuing any of the same music or films.Others argue that a common culture is not dying so much as changing forms:it is less and less attached to a particular area and ever more linked to global networks.
The facts lead to the change that anyone can become a cultural producer today, that the culture is increasingly available everywhere you want it,and whenever you want it,not just in the two months after the movie or book came out.Cultural possibilities have multiplied (倍增) as a result, but the change also means fewer cultural moments. It is easy to find the change in terms of loss of diversity of society. So what will it mean if globalization turns us into one wide world culture?
For the enthusiasts (热衷者) of these changes, culture is not about popular artists or books, but centers on platforms like Google and Wikipedia, where every variety of culture brings about the exchange of knowledge and ideas, and makes connections across boundaries (边界) .It is perhaps debatable whether two people who have participated in such websites, but in totally different corners of them, have had a cultural experience in common. In fact, these platforms become very successful with a large crowd of people, who build things together, share information, and forward articles back and forth.
There are still more questions. What does it mean for the future of countries that culture now goes beyond the limits of the nation? Is there anything to defend and preserve(维护) in the passing cultural world,or is that only to favor pen over printing press, horse over automobile(汽车)?
Up to now a growing quantity of culture has been globally spreading and developing.More individuals than ever have the chances to be makers of culture, even if that means more to choose from and fewer standards to be reached in common. What it means is this strange feeling:that of being more connected than ever, with one-click(点击) access to so much of the cultural harvest around the world, and yet,of being starved for having similar interests and opinions with others, concerned only with ourselves.

(1)In Paragraph 1 the author indicates        .
A.the missing of common culture
B.the cultural diversity among people
C.the disadvantage in the digitizing society
D.the double standard of cultural evaluation
(2)It can be inferred from Paragraph 3 that        .
A.people feel satisfied with the current culture
B.enthusiasts look for current culture from famous artists
C.disappearance of common culture is a problem to be solved
D.common culture may exit into websites that connect the world
(3)What is the author's attitude towards current culture?
A.Uninterested.
B.favorable.
C.Uncertain.
D.Critical.

213743. (2023•高陵一中•高二下期中) For many years there's been a debate about rewarding our children.Does it work?Is it effective?
Some people think we should establish a standard with our kids and give them something for meeting this standard as a reward.Punishment is given out in much the same way,but it's used when certain standards of performance, behavior, etc.have not been met.Kids will often become more dutiful when threatened with punishment, and work harder when promised a valuable reward. The problem is what happens when you aren't around.
To develop responsible,self-disciplined(自律) kids, parents need to promote certain ideas. One of these ideas is that everyone pitches in(参与) and helps in your family.Another idea is that there can be enjoyment in doing any task if we choose to make it so.When a task is for a worthy cause (our family can enjoy the house more because I helped clean it),this message can have a big impact(影响).
This is how we help our kids develop a sense of responsibility. When our children develop this responsibility, they'll be more disciplined, and they'll control their emotions better. When we give rewards to our kids,we reduce the sense of responsibility. We also create children who may temporarily perform to a certain standard, but who aren't likely to continue the performance without the carrot hanging in front of them.
"Rewards and punishment can change behavior for a while, but they cannot change the person who engages in(参与) the behavior," said Alfie Kohn, author of Punished by Rewards. "Good values have to be grown from the inside out." Parents can help give their children a sense of shared responsibility and discipline which can last a life time. The real rewards that your children receive will be their readiness for the complex and demanding world that waits for them-a world that rewards those who have learned the secrets of discipline responsibility. So keep those shiny rewarding to yourself, and let your kids find their own rewards.

(1)According to the passage, when children are threatened with punishment,
A.they may lose interest in their work
B.they may appear to be well-behaved
C.they may change to another person
D.the results will be worse than usual
(2)The underlined part "the carrot" in Paragraph 4 probably refers to
A.rewards
B.aims
C.apologies
D.doubts
(3)According to the passage,Alfie Kohn would agree that parentould
A.never pay attention to the way their children do things
B.show their children how to behave by example
C.never punish their children
D.help their children establish good values
(4)What's the best title for the passage?
A.Do you often reward your children?
B.Should parents reward their children?
C.When should parents reward their children?
D.What can parents reward their children with?

217774. (2025•西安中学•高二下期末) A typical lion tamer (驯兽师) in people's mind is an entertainer holding a whip (鞭) and a chair. The whip gets all of the attention, but it's mostly for show.In reality,it's the chair that does the important work. When a lion tamer holds a chair in front of the lion's face, the lion tries to focus on all four legs of the chair at the same time. With its focus divided, the lion becomes confused and is unsure about what to do next. When faced with so many options, the lion chooses to freeze and wait instead of attacking the man holding the chair.
How often do you find yourself in the same position as the lion? How often do you have something you want to achieve (e.g.lose weight, start a business, travel more)- only to end up confused by all of the options in front of you and never make progress?
This upsets me to no end because while all the experts are busy debating about which option is best, the people who want to improve their lives are left confused by all of the conflicting information. The end result is that we feel like we can't focus or that we're focused on the wrong things, and so we take less action, make less progress, and stay the same when we could be improving.
It doesn't have to be that way.Anytime you find the world waving a chair in your face, remember this:All you need to do is focus on one thing. You just need to get started.Starting before you feel ready is one of the habits of successful people. If you have somewhere you want to go,something you want to accomplish, someone you want to become …take immediate action. If you're clear about where you want to go,the rest of the world will either help you get there or get out of the way.

(1)Why does the lion tamer use a chair?
A.To trick the lion.
B.To show off his skills.
C.To get ready for a fight.
D.To entertain the audience.
(2)In what sense are people similar to a lion facing a chair?
A.They feel puzzled over choices.
B.They hold on to the wrong things.
C.They find it hard to make changes.
D.They have to do something for show.
(3)What is the author's attitude towards the experts mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A.Tolerant.
B.Doubtful.
C.Respectful.
D.Supportive.
(4)When the world is "waving a chair in your face",you're advised to
A.wait for a better chance
B.break your old habits
C.make a quick decision
D.ask for clear guidance
