Most people have map apps on their phones that can show their location and guide them to where they want to go.But how do these apps know your location at any time or place? They find you by using satellite navigation (satnav) systems(卫星导航系统).
A satnav system uses groups of satellites to find the user's location. This location information is then sent to a receiver(接收器),such as a smartphone.
The first satnav system was the Global Positioning System(GPS)of the United States.First used in 1964,the system is the world's leading satnav system. But China's satnav system,Beidou, has been better than GPS in size,Japan's Nikkei Asian Review reported.China sent Beidou's first navigation satellite into space in 2000.China also became the third country to build a satnav system after the US and Russia.Nowadays, over 30 countries in Africa and the Middle East are using the Beidou system.
With its world-leading technology,Beidou is leading Chinese citizens to a better life by playing important roles in different areas.
For example,as of April, over 6.2 million vehicles(车辆)in China were using Beidou for navigation.
At the newly-built Beijing Daxing International Airport,Beidou has been used to keep track of(追踪)loading and unloading vehicles indoors and outdoors. When the airport fully opens, each baggage cart(行李车)will have Beidou navigation equipment to help passengers get their luggage faster.

Three years ago,I left my hometown in New York and now I have enjoyed working in this small city in China.Learning a foreign language opens you up to the culture and history of a country. So in order to know more about China,I started to learn Chinese.
But at times,I found myself in funny situations. When I greeted strangers in China, they began to talk a lot and very fast. They asked me questions about everything. But all I could do was to look at them with a blank face.I had no idea what they were talking about. Were they just being kind, funny or impolite? Many people wanted to make friends with me.But I was a bit upset when I found out the reason why they needed a foreign friend. They said they wanted to practice their English.I don't need friends like this.I like friends to share my feelings and ideas with.
However, the more Chinese I learn, the more similarities(相同之处)I find it has with English. In English,thick-skinned is to depict a person on who doesn't care for criticism (批评).I was surprised to find that houlianpi in Chinese means the same. And both languageare some common idioms .For example. "look on with folded arms" means xiushoupanguan.and "burn the boats" is similar to pofuchenzhou.
I'm still on my journey to learn Chinese.I believe that sometimes you have the most fun on a journey.
